I think I have read the -R means refurb - so it may very well be possible. I do doubt it would be a new one.

Refurbished is ok, I am glad because I can use the FA Pro. The HD's did come back on with the HR20-100, but the ant 1 would go out quite a bit, so I will go ahead and do the swap.

I had HD install just last week and they brought a refurbished HR20.

Of course, I'm having lots of problems with it but that's another story.

i am looking to upgrade to DVR, and i was tempted to just go through the DTV website, because they are showing a picture of an HR20 when you click to order a new receiver, but if its a crapshoot what i'm going to get, i won't do it. we don't get the locals in HD here, so finding an HR20 is of the utmost importance.

I am in the same boat. Not only does directv not offer locals in HD they dont offer them at all to me. Dish Network does but I dont want to be stuck watching the Rams and Chiefs all year with no Sunday Ticket to boot. I am being installed next week and requested a HR20 but called the local office today that will be coming out and they seem to think I wont get a HR20. It was a bummer. Guess I will be calling back for the AM21 after install so I cna get the locals afterall.

This week I ordered another HD-DVR online at the "Loyal Customer" price of $99. It arrived today and is already happily purring away in the kitchen (actually, it's in the pantry). They shipped a refurb HR20-700, so I now have four of that model. That's fine with me, but I sure feel sorry for the people who "need" them for OTA because I do not.

I went for the $99 promo and did indeed receive an HR20-700, refurbished. Funny thing is, I was on the phone getting it activated and the rep originally said "lease", but then when she got a little further she said "actually, it looks like this will go in as 'owned'" ! I said .... "okkkkkk". lol. hmmmmm.

I take it you live in Ottawa county. If you lived in Craig County, you'd get Tulsa locals, which are in HD.

The 20-700s that I have all work perfectly except for the minor annoyance of the occasional reboot. Be happy that they did not send you a 20-100.

Don't remind me. Craig county has the same zip as my town and is less then 5 minutes away from me and they get the Tulsa locals which is what I want. It stinks.

You never know what to expect. They do guarantee to replace a defective unit with one of equal capability. If you use OTA, you might have a good argument to get another 20-700 or you might get one of those horrible 20-100s.
