What are the special filters for which are connected on the back of the DVR to the satellite in?

Those are B-Band converters. Not really necessary now, but should be later on.

I'll probably goof this up but they are supposed to convert the low freq to high frequency...Or just reverse that.

Do a search here on "B-Band Converter" and you'll find more information about them.

They're not really needed until DirecTV's new Ka-band satellites go active in 2007.
