Due to one of my HR10-250 Hard Drives failing, I am thinking about making the total switch, with two new HR20's, 5 LNB dish, etc.....

I understand that the DVR has some software issues, which is to be expected. But are there any Hardware related issues? The software issues can be addressed by DTV, but Harware issues are of more concern.

I remember when the HR10-250 came out, there was the HDMI card issue that some had experienced.

By the way, what is the best deal I can expect from DTV to switch over. I currently have them on the hook for a replacement HR10-250 for the one that is bad and a new HR20 as part of the upgrade, along with the Dish, Multiswitch, install, etc... for $99 plus shipping. Is this about the best I can do.

If I pull the trigger, I would really want both my HR10's replaced.

AFAIK, very few hardware issues...couple of hard drives, a few LNB's out on the dish, but nothing systematic and no big trends. The hardware problems with the HR20 appear to be few and far between. If you've read the forums, you know about software/setup/user issues: they are all over the map.

By that I mean, many have no significant problems. A significant minority have major problems. I've had mine about 11 weeks, no signficant problems...in fact, I have had to do only one red button reset and that appaered to be caused by some garbage in the datastream of one particular program (others experienced it too). Overall the box has been terrific. I don't have MPEG-4/HD-Locals...and that has been problematic for a significant minority (bugs show up that may be on the encode/provider side, as well as some things the HR20 does not handle properly.

So...if you can be patient with a few missed recordings (especially on subcription sports channels), and things being ironed out on the software side, then the HR20 would be fine for you now. If what you are doing is "mission critical", and the consequences of any problems are dire...then you might want to wait.
