HR20 HDMI Sound Problem

1602 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  BrennaG
Hi. Newbie here. Glad I found you.

So I got the HR20-7005 for Xmas. Hooked it up before getting the HD Dish via HDMI. Can't remember if there was sound but it seems like I would have noticed if there wasn't.

Next morning - no sound.

HD satellite installed - guy (who was a brainsurgeon) say that it won't work and we have to use the S-Video connection -- which causes a weird shadowing effect thus ruining the picture.

Satellite guy did try a different HDMI cable with the same results. He said it was the TV (which is convienant as if it was the reciever, he would have to address it).

Picture is great with HDMI hook up. Should I learn to read lips?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh. I have a 37" Aquos LCD.

Is DD set to on? If so, turn it off.

Sorry. I'm a newbie -- what's the DD?

Dolby Digital. Press the yellow button on the remote while watching something in HD. Do you get sound?
Well, now the tv input won't even let me select the HDMI connection. It doesn't even seem to realize its there.

From my reading on this board, I went back to try the component connections (which the installer had plugged into the back of the DVR but never connected to the TV). Plugged those into the TV got a great picture with sound.

Is it even worth trying to resolve the HDMI problem? Is the HDMI picture super better?

After watching it via the S cable, the component was such an improvement, I decided to stop worrying over it for at least a day or two.
