HR20 - IR remote stops working...

A couple details on my setup first...

I have one of these fancy Harmony remotes that I love. I'm using a Leapfrog IR extender to get into the cabinet I have the HR-20 installed in.

So here's the issue... I've noticed that when I set the Harmony to leave the HR-20 on at all time, I OFTEN power everything else up and the HR-20 appears to be locked up, It does not respond to IR. I try using the Harmony, even the original remote and nothing. However if I use the buttons on the front of the unit it's not actually locked up.

So what the heck is this? The box appears to still be up but totally unresponsive to my remote(s). Red button reset fixes the problem. This only seems to happen when the unit is left on over night. I thought this was a possible HDMI issue but I disconnected HDMI last week and I'm now using component. I tried opening the door of the cabinet to bypass using the Leapfrog to get the IR into the cabinet, but the unit doesn't seem to accept IR from the sensor on the front of it either.

I'm trying not to jump on the bandwagon and blame the HR-20 but I'm having a hard time nailing it down. Anyone else have a this problem or a similar problem?

Last week, I had the Harmony setup to shut off everything (when the off button was pressed) and I seemed to have less or none of these. I've heard many on here that leave this thing on all the time... How can that be?

Any thoughts?

Good question. I have a harmony remote too. But unlike you I turn everyting off everytime. I have not had the unit unresponsive to the remote. Hopefully someone who leaves thiers on can chime in on this one.

I have 2 HR20's. One is set to use RF, the other IR. I always leave my units on. The one in the bedroom is our nightlight, The living room unit has the lights turned off, but I digress.

On both units, I have experienced "remote erosion". It starts off with the trick play buttons not working while Menu and Guide continue to work, then eventually, the unit stops responding to the remote completely. The one finger salute, AKA as Red Button Reset brings it back to working condition.

' not sure if you see the same symptoms, but I am not using Harmony and have had a few occasions where the remote stops functioning.

Try unplugging the leapfrog, it maybe picking up interference and putting out junk signals that are bombarding the hr20.

That is a good possibility. My wireless controller fo my PS2 sometimes picks up interference from my wireless router. It starts becoming unresponsive. I have to unplug both to get it working again.

That's a good suggestion... I switched things around and I now have the HR-20 out in the open.

I still have the unit set to go off each time I hit off. I'll probably change that for the time being to see if I can recreate.
