I noticed on their website that they would have a limited number of HR20's available on 12-20.

I called in just now and was able to get it ordered. Tehy couldn't schedule an install at this time (I didn't want it installed), so they are just shipping it.

The availability may depend on what region you are in, so YMMV. I am swapping out the plain old HD Receiver for the HR20 as I want to try it out next to my HR10. I am leary of giving up my HD Tivo! :lol:

Just wondering what sort of deal you got with the swap?

I'd like to do that, too, but I'm afraid I haven't been a subscriber long enough to get a good deal.

Be persistent, the CSRs don't necessarily know they're in stock. I called and my first line CSR told me they weren't in stock (I hadn't seen this yet), then double checked as an afterthought and was surprised to find them there. I was then routed to Installation and then to Retention in the process of negotiating the price.

Installation told me the first rep was wrong, they didn't have any, and was surprised to find them in stock when I made her check. Retention told me both the first rep and Installation were wrong, and was even more surprised when she found them in stock.

Saw that on the website as well... called and they scheduled me for the 6th of January. WOOHOO. originally said 299, then sent me to customer retention they brought it down to 199, but they would credit me the first installment of 99, so it was 100 then they gave me 6 months of credit of 20 each. And to top it all off they threw in 6 months of Cinemax. :)

Same here...I just ordered mine yesterday online....also just placed in on a CC, BUT currently I am unable to setup a date for installation!!

Anyone else run into this?? My account has been charged, but everytime I have called D*, they tell me that they canot setup a date yet due to a 72-hour time delay???

When I ordered mine from the website it had many dates available. The earliest was Jan 8, so I chose that. I noticed that for other models there was an option to have it shipped, but that wasn't available for the HR20. I don't need an installer to just connect my two existing cables to the new box.

Edit: I just called and the CSR said they weren't shipping the HR20s because they are too valuable.

When did you order yours??? Starting to think I might be getting the run around from D*..........

I believe it was about 2 am yesterday (I had trouble sleeping and was doing a bit of surfing when I found that they were available).

Thanks for the info..I ordered mine yesterday around 10AM...looks like I might have to call them and find out what's going on.....

I got the automated call from D* on 12/20 saying they are now available, also. I was a bit surprised it didn't say to call back at any particular time, so, I guess anyone can take the order. Anyone have comments on the best time to call (9-5 weekdays, etc.?) to get someone that may be more prone to give a better deal. (Better price, more free stuff (MS, etc.).) Or, is it as always, call until you get the deal you can live with?

I live in Phila area. I'm scheduled for the 6th also. Is a company called Ironwood installing yours? I called to confirm that I'm getting the new 'black' colored one and they said Yes. Which one are you getting?

Be very careful with Ironwood!

The Ironwood techs don't know the NEC grounding requirements. To be blunt, these people are complete idiots. They don't properly train their technicians and when you explain to their techs what code requires for grounding a satellite system, they are completely clueless. I had to explain in very simple language the complete code requirements and the guy thought I was speaking Latin and left without completing the job. This happened five (Yes, 5!) times before the supervisor would come out and do it right. I do inspections for a living as an electrical engineer.

They call themselves 'professional installers' but they certainly don't meet the standard. I don't know why D* continues to use this outfit for their installs. Dish Network had major headaches regarding improperly grounded 'professional' installs and had to pay fines. Is D* next?

I even ended up filing a complaint with the state Attorney General's office.
