I recently had DirecTV come and install the 5LNB dish and got a HD receiver (not a DVR). The HD Receiver works fine, but I went out and got an HD DVR and its showing searching for signal on the HD channels. I have 2 BBC converters connected to the HD DVR so it should be hooked up correctly. Thanks for your help.

The simplest thing to try would be to hit the red re-set button found behind the little door on the right front corner of the HR-20. It will take a few minutes for the DVR to re-boot but with any luck that could solve your issue.

Did you replace the HD IRD with the HD DVR IRD, or add it as a second IRD?

OK..confused here. Let's start simply.

How many total D* receivers did you have in your home before you got the HD DVR? How many cables are run to each? How many cables are connected directly to the dish, not passing through a splitter or multi-switch?

Did you "test" the HD DVR by swapping it with the HD box, using the same cable? Remember, you CAN NOT simply split the single cable that fed the HD box to feed both tuners on the HD DVR box.

4 receivers (3 SD 1 HD (non DVR). Right now there is one cable running to that room. I used the same cable as the HD receiver was using, and hooked up BBCs. I went over to my parents house and borrowed their hr20 to see if it would work and it did. The HR20 shows signal for 103c but the HR21 does not. Any ideas what could be the issue?

This sounds like the problem I have... http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=132182

So it looks like a normal diplexer or splitter or something.
There shouldn't be anything in the system that looks like a diplexer or a splitter.

The one cable should come from the dish and go uniquely to the BBC (you CANNOT use a splitter or a diplexer) and the BBC should be connected to the HR21 satellite input #1. Note that you won't be able to use the second tuner unless you off one of your SD receivers or install a second cable and a multiswitch.

Please bounce any theories you may have off of us before you run out and buy anything more.

Well, the HR20 works perfectly. Its the HR21 thats giving me the problems, and the HR21 worked at the parents house. Its odd really.. Im using the same BBC connector and cable. I am stumped at this point. All sats work except 103, which works on the HR20. Tomorrow I think I may go into the attic and hook the receiver directly to the cable coming from the satellite.

What type of dish do you have: an older AT-9 ("sidecar") or an AU9-S ("Slimline")? There appears to be a compatibility problem with HR21's and certain LNB's.

And you're plugging into Sat 1 and not Sat 2 on the rear of the unit, right? (You have an H20, which only needs 1 line, and an HR21, which wants 2 lines but can function with only 1).

Try removing the BBC from the Sat 2, because with that plugged in, the HR21 is looking to find a signal on the Sat 2 but theres nothing there, so its giving you SSFS

ive tried both inputs with several different BNCs, I also have an HR20 that works fine, and finds 103c. I am going to the attic and plugging the cable directly to the box. I will let you guys know the result.

I would hook it up again with the 1 line and BBC going into SAT1, then go to the setup menu and do a 'reset everything'. It sounds like the box is too smart for it's own good and thinks there is a 2nd line so just have the 1 line and start over.

its not working because you are using a splitter to split the signal between the hr20 and hr21. you cannot do that unless you are using a swm.
He might just be talking about the grounding block This sounds like all new stuff......

evan as far as I know he didnt use a multiswitch cause it was for 4 rooms only. So it looks like a normal diplexer or splitter or something.
