Is it possible to configure the HR20 to accept both RF and IR?

I want to use my RF remote in my bedroom and the IR remote in the living room. I'm sharing the same HR20 for both TV's.

"Technically Possible", yes...

However, DirecTV has opted to only allow one at a time with the HR20.

You can have more then one remote set to RF to communicate with the HR20
(Aka, you can use RF in your living room)
