You will have everything you have today via satellite. Soon you will also receive everything you might be getting via OTA on HR10-250.Jimbos G said:My HR10-250 DVR just died on me. I phoned DTV and they sent me a new receiver but it is an HR20 and I have a 3LNB dish. Will it work with this dish?
As always when dealing with front line CSRs, your mileage will vary.Jimbos G said:Thanks for the quick replies guys. Funny thing is I spoke with DTV and they told me the receiver will not work and are coming out to replace my Satellite dish on Jan 2. I am assuming to the 5 LNB. They are also going to replace a 2nd HR10-250 I have with an HR20.
In the meantime I have hooked up an old SD Tivo I had laying around but I guess I can go ahead and use the HR20 while I am waiting on the install of the new dish? I'm surprised customer service didn't tell me this when I called to activate my old SD Tivo receiver.
I'm guessing you and I will get the update tonight that will enable OTA. As for DVR, call a new CSR to get that turned on.Jimbos G said:OK. I guess DTV sent me a refurbished HR20 but I guess for free I can't complain. Just got it activated and I am not receiving my local OTA HD channels, just SD locals. I have my antennae connected just like I did on my 10-250 where I got all my locals in HD. Any suggestions?
I just spent an hour with a CSR getting this thing activated and now I see I don't have DVR service either..........
The OTA update hit the west coast last night. Normally this means you and I would get tonight. (Maybe midwest too, but I don't follow the distribution timing after it hits me.Jimbos G said:Thanks Tom. I got the DVR service turned on after they did a software update. Looks like I will need another software update before I can receive OTA HD locals though. That won't be until 12/26-12/30 according to the Tech.
You won't miss anything right now if you can get OTA (except your local sports network if it's available in HD via D*), but you will need the 5-LNB dish to receive all future HD programming. In fact, at some point over the next few years you'll see the current HD programming move to the new birds as well...so finding a location where you can mount the dish would be something you'll want to plan for if you'll be staying with D*.DennyC said:I have a 3-LNB dish and my HR20 installation is scheduled for this Saturday. I've already had several installers say there's no way to install either version of the 5-LNB dish on my property without a custom pole mount, which I'm not inclined to do.
My question is, once OTA is enabled in my area, what will I eventually miss with a 3-LNB instead of a 5-LNB? I.e., are they just using those satellites to expand their local HD programming to more areas, or are they planning to add additional HD channels on those satellites-- channels that I won't be able to get either OTA or via my 3-LNB dish?
what is an RBR?houskamp said:I would try "repeat sat setup" under "sat & ant" first.. otherwise I believe it checks on a RBR...
RBR=Red Button Reset (red button under the access door in front right)toy4two said:what is an RBR?
MY HR20 came with 2 B-band convertor pig tails, do I need those?
Geez. CSR is completely wrong. You will get all HD in the package except your local channels.no_to_co said:I just picked up the HR20-700 at Costco (I was thinking of switching to Dish, but decided to stay with the "evil" I know) Anyway, I called D* and switched on the receiver, but they said that I should not start the HD package before the 5LNB install (in 2 weeks) since there are no HD channels the 3LNB can pick up.
What HD channels can you guys get with the 3LMB dish? Should I have them turn on the HD package now? Also, how long does it take before the OTA update shows up on my new reciever?
Thanks.
