HR20 without HD Package

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I could not find an answer to this via a search.

Will DirecTV sell me an HR20 without an HD package (hopefully still discounted)? I want to receive my OTA and record them (once activated), but I am not interested in other HD channels . . . yet!

If you've been a good D* customer, you likely can get good discounts, the HR20, the new dish, and have them give you the HD package for free for 6 months. Then just drop the HD when the free runs out.

Normally D* leases the HR20, but they also can sell (for a higher cost.)

If you have LiL locals available, you'll get them without the HD package anyway. It is not a required part of ordering an HR20.

Anyway, if you can. get it included for free for three or four months and just cancel it before you need to pay for it.

I have the HR20 and no HD package, when they installed it I told them I did not want to activate the HD package, I can't get HD locals and the other available channels I don't miss in HD so I don't want to pay for it now. I get HBO and Show time in HD with that so I am happy. It was not a problem at all.

I had the same question -- I don't have an HD TV, but I'd like to get the HR20 because of the extra storage space. I think that I had a rep tell me that I could not get it without getting HD and she basically acted as though I was an idiot for asking.

So ... the HD package does no good for me, even if it were free, because I don't have an HD TV. I'd still like to get an HR20 for the hard drive space. Will D* let me?

Some CSR's have been notorious for giving out incorrect information. You are not required to subscribe to the HD package in order to get an HR20.

The main reason I got mine was for the extra storage (I have an ED TV and plan to go HD next year) when I placed the order with the CSR they never asked me about the HD package and I never said anything about it. When the installer called in to activate the unit I told him I did not want the HD package and nobody said anything.
