Searched this thread but didn't see anything that might resemble what I'm experiencing. I have 3 HR21/200's (0x59e) and all of them have the Power Saving setting "On". When the others are in the "Sleep" mode they are very quiet even when the unit is recording something. One unit APPEARS to be sleeping (No lights on the front panel, etc...) but the fan is spinning away......

I tried restarting the receiver with the Power Saver setting to the OFF position but the box still acts the same.

Any suggestions on how to get this box to really sleep?

Sorry the 'sleep' mode does little other than turning off the outputs and turning off the lights. The hard drive and fans will continue running as normal...

Not sure why they call it 'sleep' or 'power saving'.

Power save on will not do anything to stop a fan that is running high. It is running high because its thermally controlled and is being told your unit is too warm, possibly due to a faulty sensor or vents being blocked or clogged. They do not go to sleep like PC's, they are just supposed to going into a lower power state, which has yet to be realized by some people measuring wattage during power save mode.

Thanks very much for the info... I will take the cover off to see what is going on with the vents, etc.... I'll report back with my findings......

Could be just a noisy fan, I have changed a couple, cheap and easy to do.

Update..... ok, based on the info provided here I decided to take a quick look at the "info" screen to see what the internal temp was. The readout said N/A - External Hard Drive Used. That concerned me since the thermal sensor was somehow saying that the box was running hot.

Decided to unplug the unit during the restart process and let it rest for a few hours. Plugged it in this morning and after the boot up process the loud fan noise has subsided..... at least for now. I will monitor its behavior and let you folks know if it starts up again.....

As of now, (9 hours later) the box is dead silent like my others..... I guess letting it sit for a while was the hot ticket!
