Seeing pretty much the same symptoms here on my HR21-700s + AM21s.
HR21-700 stuttering problem
My unit has stuttering problem. This problem mostly affects OTA recordings (although some mpeg2 channels have this problem too). Few times an hour the unit will go into stuttering stage when for 5-15 seconds picture stops/start/pixaltes. Sometimes picture completely stops up to 30 sec. Often, if I replay the fragment of the recording it plays fine. I've had this problem since I got the replacement receiver two months ago. My previous receiver was HR20 and I had zero problems with that unit until it died.
Have you experience this problem? My unit might be just bad.

I called Directv yesterday and they are sending a new (refurbished most likely) unit.
Most people in this tread http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=132185 are very happy with this combo, so I assume that the problem is with the receiver.
