HR21-700 - Tuner1 No Longer Receiving Sat Signals

866 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Casey21
I've been having problems with missed recordings, etc... so thought I would check my sat signals on my HR21-700. I discovered that I'm now not getting any signals on any sat for Tuner1. Tuner2 is fine. I'm not sure when this started as I've checked sat signals in the past and I know that Tuner1 was working. It must have quit working when my missed recordings started a couple weeks back. I have a HR20-700 in another room and both tuners are working fine on that DVR. I've checked connections, b-band (i think that's what they're called) pluggled into the back of the DVR. I can't find anything obvious and am not sure why Tuner1 would all of a sudden stop working. Does anyone have any ideas on anything else to check before I have to make the dreaded call to DTV? Thanks for any suggestions.

Try swapping the connections on the back of the HR21-700 to see if the "other" tuner starts misbehaving. Move the BBCs, not the coax into the BBCs. If it does move to the "other" tuner, then try to swap the coax going into the BBCs and see if it then stays on the same tuner.

You may have a BBC that has stopped functioning properly.
Thanks for the reply, Doug. We tried that last night with no luck :( Was hoping we were missing something else. At this point, unfortunately, I'm inclined to think it's a bad box. Uugh, is DTV going to charge me for a service call to fix or replace their box that went bad???
I had the same exact issue hapen with mine this morning. I just did a menu reset and it seemed to fix it for now. I can't figure out what is causing this problem. At least I am not the only one this is happening to. :)

Did you try swapping the SAT cables both with and without swapping the BBCs? That will rule out a defective BBC.
If possible, run a new direct line from the dish to the Sat 2 connection on the receiver. If it still does not work you can probably assume the receiver is bad. If it does work you have a problem somewhere in your cable run (connector, cable, ground block, BBC).

I just went through something similar. I found a bad connector at the ground block, two bad BBCs, and ultimately my HR20. Lightning was not kind to me - but it could have been worse.
Casey21,

Just a suggestion. I have had a weird problem with my HR21-700 ever since the last national release came out. The tuners are fine and I can record 2 things at once, but as soon as I go into the signal meters, it knocks the tuners out (1 or both) and I can no longer get a signal on them until I reboot. You may want to reboot the receiver, start recording something on one channel, then switch to another channel to see if the tuner is in fact offline. I suspect the signal meter issue with mine is related to the national release. I reported it to my Case Manager, but so far I have not heard anything back.

Just my $0.02 suggestion. :)

Thanks so much everyone for all of your suggestions and tips. I really appreciate the help. I received the national release of the latest software last night and guess what.............Tuner1 seems to be working again. I have to think the previous software did not do me any favors and the latest release last night has "fixed" the issue for now. Thanks again!!!
