First the basics: Hr21-700, 0x235, 1TB WD eSATA in Antec MX-1 enclosure.

Now the problem. Shows are disappearing off my playlist. This started about two weeks ago-- I saw the % free space start to creep up, from about 9% to now around 27%. I also started to notice certain recordings missing. The first ones I noticed were HBO things I recorded in January, which made me start to wonder if there was some DRM that aged them out. But then I noticed I had lost a whole folder of "Ancient Discoveries" from History HD. And then the IndyCar race from Watkins Glen was gone before I ever even saw it in my list. History showed it as being "deleted by the viewer". I certainly didn't delete it, and everyone else in the household denies it as well.

Is this a bug? Could my drive be going bad? Would there be some errors somewhere I could check if it's the drive? The drive is only about 6 months old, but I guess anything is possible.

You have a 1TB external drive and you were down to only 9% Free??? Wow, that's a lot of saved recordings!

This sounds like "normal" behavior. Your DVR tries to keep enough free space available for upcoming recordings in your To Do List. Do you have lots of your recordings set as "Keep Until I Delete"?

Strangely, we lost an entire folding of recordings recently too (Fireman Sam). We were down to about 10% in space. Why an entire folder would be targeted for deletion over shows across the disk is a mystery. I do know that sometimes a drive can run out of space quickly when a show that is supposed to be an hour long ends up being recorded for 24 hours. You may want to check and see if you have such a recording.

I don't think it's because of running low on space. The free level has been rising gradually over the last week or so. Once it got to 27% free, it had *plenty* of space, and yet the next morning it was 31% free, and more stuff was gone.

But I'm getting suspicious that it's one of my kids. We're taking the remote away for now, and we'll see if it stops happening. I wish the parental controls could lock out cancel/delete as well as play.

I wouldn't kill the kids yet... ;) I'm losing recorded shows when I reboot for CE updates. The lost shows seemed to be random, but over time it looks like some of the same shows in folders are affected. It doesn't seem to matter if the show is tagged as Keep or not. I also think the free space doesn't change when shows disappear. The last time this happened was when I was watching a recorded show while another series was recording. The DVR started acting weird when I paused the show, it finally locked up and required an RBR to recover. After it came back, the show that just recorded was the only show, the other 7 or so disappeared. The is the same series that has had shows disappear and reappear a number of times. Makes me wonder if there is a problem on the disc where the folder is written or if the DVR system is not handling/doing fschck or free space recover correctly... Is there a system maintenance mode for the DVR? or maybe I need to connect the drive to a Linux system for a little file system maintenance...

Alternatively, there might be a disc size limitation which we have exceeded. eSATA is still not supported, correct? ...so they don't have to address the issue or tell us if the DVR system can go beyond ~330 Gb...
