There is a thread here which (I think) describes a possible means of doing this. I have not read the whole thread nor have I tried this myself.
Thank you sir, I knew that thread was around and I am glad you posted it again so I could mark it.

Sorry for the sidetrack OP!

thanks sbl!

i hope others that have done it can post what procedures they have followed and also to update that thread or give pointers here.
I used the proceedure referenced above successfully (using Knoppix). I upgraded a Sans Digital External Raid from 1.5TB to 2TB. It took all night to copy that much data, since the 1.5TB was almost full, but it worked flawlessly, and the additional space has been mostly filled now, so I know the proceedure was successful. All this, however, was done using external drives.

Is there anyway to transfer your recordings to an external drive without voiding the warranty? If I understand correctly, you don't have access to your internal recordings when you are plugged into the external drive.

:welcome_s to DBSTalk!

No there is no way to transfer the recordings on your internal drive to a eSATA drive without voiding your lease agreement.

When adding a eSATA drive the only way to be able to get to your recordings on your internal drive would be to disconnect the eSATA drive and reboot.

Thanks for the welcome Sr. D'Angelo.

Rebooting is good enough for me. I'll call it volume 1 and volume 2.

thanks again,
