HR22

I am having Directv installed on 8-4-08 and I called today to see if they could tell me what the model number of the DVR I was getting and the lady said HR22 but then she said she could not find any information on that DVR.

I have read alot about the HR20 and HR21 and both seem to have mixed feelings about them. I did not come up with anything when I searched HR22. I dont know what I am getting for sure. I have never had a DVR before so I am looking forward to what ever shows up. I did get them to tell me that I will have the slimline 5 lnb dish set up. Anyone know anything about a HR22 coming out anytime soon? If not which is better the HR20 or the HR21?

It will not be an HR22 because there is no such thing. There is a R22 SD DVR.

You will most likely receive an HR21, with a very small chance of getting an HR20, but I doubt it.

There is no "better" between the HR20 and HR21... only a few minor differences... biggest difference is... if you need/want to receive your local channels via an OTA antenna and integrate them into the receiver (where they display in the guide and you can record them), then you will need to buy an add on tuner called an AM21 if you receive an HR21... The HR20 has this capability built in... Otherwise, they're pretty much functionally equivalent...
Thanks. She in the end said that it would be what ever the installer had on hand. The HD part is not that big of a deal to me I just wanted HDnet for the MMA stuff. I could care less about any other HD channels at this point.
Well that's interesting the csr mentioned the HR 22. I called Costco about an hour ago to see if they had dropped the price on the HR 21 lately, and the guy told me that they were out of stock, and were no longer carrying that model anymore. But they do have a shipment of HR 22's coming in on the 8th. I called the other local Costco's, but none of them had any information. Wonder if they really do have a new hd dvr coming out this week.
Okay I have another stupid question. I dont have a HD TV yet but I am signed up to get HD programming tomorrow. The only reason I want it is for HDnet and its MMA content. My question is will I be able to watch it on my SD TV until I buy a HD TV?

Yes. The HD Receivers and DVRs have outputs that will work with your SD TV (composite video, SVideo).
a friend of mine is being installed . It was supposed to be today, but they didn't have any hddvr's available.
Has anyone confirmed if there is a HR22 coming out ?

I think the mods would know if we were close to a new model.

So I'm thinking we're not.
Wow it was my understanding at least a while back, if you didnt have HD reciever they wouldnt do the install of a HD DVR?

Do you mean that if you didn't have an HDTV they wouldn't install and HD DVR? I guess there could be some installers that would be hesitant because they wouldn't be able to verify the installed equipment is fully functional or because they were afraid the customer would complain about not really seeing "HD". Really, in a situation where the customer knows the facts and is simply planning on a near-future TV upgrade, why would D* care? And maybe this was two years ago when HR2x's were scarce and they had waiting lists?
I called Costco again today. Different person, same answer about the HR22 being the model number on the HD DVR's they have coming in on the 8th.

Hmmm .. Interesting to hear that Costco is getting these receivers, but it's a virtual certainty that they will be R22s ..
I would have to agree with Doug on the R22 and hopefully that is the case because I know a lot of people would like to get the R22 but can not as of right now.
There are some installers who won't install an HD unit on an SD TV. The installer I had was reluctant, but finally did so.

I'll just tell them that I am getting a hdtv soon. It should not be that big of a deal.

No such box exists. I agree they are confusing it with the R22.
I have DirecTV coming out to upgrade my system this Thursday. When I asked what equipment I would get, the guy said "most likely our new HR22". I asked if it was black and he said yes. I'm not well versed in DirectTV's equipment but I did enough research to know I wanted the HR21 and the 100 version was the latest so I was a little surprised and didn't know what to think when he said HR22.
