At least for myself as a primarily ipad app user, it's not all that obvious. You don't get the home page stuff unless you go to the news forum, and sticky threads are on a separate tab from regular threads.

In fairness, the engadget article also mentions that the HR34 is being rebranded as Genie, and the First Look is about "Genie Recommends" and not about the rebranding of the device.
