Hello. First post, been lurking awhile. I plan on getting an HR34 fairly soon. My current set up is two HR22 boxes and an H23 receiver. I plan to drop one of the HR22 DVRs for the HR34. This is where I have my concerns. I am not sure what SWM I have and if I will need to request an upgrade to an 8 or a 16. I would assume I already have an 8?

Pictures are attached to show what I have in the main room. There is also a white DECA box by the switch and on the back of the DVR.

Would I need to get a different switch? Anything else? Thank you for any and all help you can provide!!!!

You likely have a SWMLnb (which can support 8 tuners.) You can verify this by looking at the coax line from the dish to the house. A single line means a SWMLnb. If you are dropping an HR22 then you will be fine for tuner count.

Thanks for the replies! So the hook up of the 34 would basically be just connect the coax and power and activate? Really no need for a tech?

Yep, but unless you're buying from a 3rd party D* will likely insist on a tech.
