HR34 installation: Why did installer install broadband powered DECA adapter at HR34?

Got the new genie DVR and am confused by the installer. I think he's wrong on one thing, but he insisted so I relented.

Here is the setup we set up (it's an upgrade, won't bore you with the pre-install set up but before we simply had two HR23 and one H21 all on unsupported MRV, no DECA whatsoever, always had a SWM8 since moving into this house, see my sig)

Living Room: HR34
Bedroom: C31 Client
HT Room: HR22 with UNSUPPORTED MRV through internet (our lan network)

To make sure I could watch HR34 programs on the HR22 and vice versa, I thought (As I asked before on DBStalk) that you could simply connect the HR34 to my lan network, because HR34 supports unsupported MRV.

He insisted that AT my new HR34 in the living room that they install a broadband powered DECA *instead* of simply having my HR34 directly connected to the internet. He insisted that was the only way I'd be able to make the MRV work properly between HR34 and HR22.

That seems to make NO sense to me. Why on Earth would my HR34 need a broadband powered DECA adapter connected to it? I'm not using DECA. The HR34 should be able to view shows off the HR22, and vice versa, without an external DECA adapater on the HR34 The HR34 and the C31 communicate with each other with no need for an external DECA adapter.

I'm baffled and I think these guys just don't have much experience with unsupported MRV (which isn't too surprising, since it is unsupported).

Thanks!

Follow up question: Installer installed what appears to be DCA2SR0 at HR34. If I am right that it is not needed on my HR34, can I simply move that to the HR22, and voila, now my HR22 will be connected to the HR34 via DECA?
Yes, your HR34 doesn't need a DECA adapter at all. It has DECA built in and as you pointed out the ethernet port can be used to connect it, and any other unit in your "DECA Cloud", to your LAN for access to The Internet.

Yes, you can move the DECA adapter to your HR22 and that would add it to your "DECA Cloud".

Sweet! I've had issues in the old setup watching shows in the HT room off the living room DVR. If I still have issues watching HR34 programs on the HR22, I'll move the DECA adapter to the HR22 and get it in the DECA cloud.

Thanks!!

I'd move the adapter to the HR22 anyways, get the traffic between the HR's off your LAN.
