Greetings, I just had an HR21 replaced with an HR34. The techs also upgraded me to SWM and installed deca's (sp?).

The HR34 audio is connected vial digital coax to my Denon reciever. The video from the HR34 is connected directly to by Panasonic Plasma. The audio works perfectly. I am getting DD audio.

When I stream a recording from an HR21 in another room to the HR34 I get great video and no audio through the Denon. If I turn up the TV audio (which is usually off) I can hear the streamed audio through the TV speakers. Not ideal.

When I stream a recording from the HR34 to the HR21 I get both audio and video. The HR21 is using the HDMI for both video and audio.

It seems to me that when streaming video that the coax output is turned off. But when watching either "live" or recorded content, both the HDMI and coax are lit up and output audio.

Could this be a DRM issue? I was on the phone for an hour an half today, first with a really nice tech, then with an equally nice 2nd tier tech, and finally with an amazing HMC expert. All three had great interpersonal skills and were genuinely interested in resolving the issue. They are sending out some local techs to have a look. The techs that installed it self-admitted that they collectively knew nothing about the HR34 other then how to install it. Hopefully the next tech will.

Also - Does anyone know how to dim the front panel? It's really bright. I hope I don't need to resort to tape.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

I have an HR34 and HR22 with WHDVR. I use the digital coax output from my HR34 to my receiver and then toslink digital cable from my receiver to my Plasma TV. It plays fine with live programs, local recordings and recording from my HR22. So the digital coax output does not get shut off ever. On dimming the front panel, mine isn't that bright, so I haven't tried to dim it

to dim the light on the HR34 press the right and left arrows at the same time on the front panel. each press will dim the brightness a bit until it turns off.

Thanks peds48. The installer and I both tried the left and right arrow process yesterday and it didn't work. This morning before I left work a tried it again and it worked. Odd but true. Thanks again for motivating me.

Update: I poked at this a bit more last night and found that issue is a bit more narrow than I previously reported.

It appears that the issue is confined to SD programming when I stream a recording from an HR21 in another room to the HR34. If I stream HD content, the audio and video playback is great. When I stream SD content I only get video, no audio. I tried this on 10 recordings, 5 HD and 5 SD. I got consistent results.

An HMC support person called me early evening yesterday. We reviewed my findings and they decided that they were escalating the problem to HMC engineering. They were convinced that my installation is good and that the problem is either with my HR34 or there's a code issue.

In the meantime - My whole home installation is new as of yesterday. Keeping that in mind, I think I'll try streaming SD content that's been recorded after the installation to see if that makes a difference. I'll try that tonight.

I never record anything in SD, so that's probably why the sound issue has never happened to me.
