Does anybody know if there is a "Pro" version of the HR34 available or due to be released?

As far as I know, the HR21 PRO was the only such version. HR21 is rather dated at this point.

What I'm really after is the "rack-mountable" feature. I guess it doesn't have to necessarily be a "pro" version, but a rack-mountable version is the only thing acceptable for me.

Why not just use a shelf and faceplate?

I don't see a rackmount version of this box coming any time ever. Just not enough demand for it especially give you can use a shelf.

Not enough demand for a Pro version. That's why they didn't make an HR22Pro, HR23Pro or HR24Pro.

Herdfan - Yes, the shelf-and-faceplate option is always there but always less preferable to a "real" rack-mount component. I have both in my system so I speak from experience. If nothing else, access to rear panel is more difficult because the shelf is in the way. It's also quite pricey as those rack-mount shelf/faceplates are expensive.

RunnerFL - You're probably right, but I was thinking that because of obvious lesser demand for such a "pro" version that they would simply skip a few generations before offering a new pro version. And lets face it - the difference between the HR34 is far more significant - a quantum leap if you will - than the difference between the HR21, 22, 23 and 24. So it seems like the next logical unit to see a pro version or at least a rack-mount version.

I guess to satisfy my need, all they would need to do is to offer a rack-mount ear option than can be added on to the "standard" HR34. That way it's not a whole separate unit that must be produced. A relatively inexpensive add-on rack-mount ear kit converts a non-rack-mount HR34 into a rack-mount HR34. Many A/V electronic component manufacturers go this route.

If they were to produce a "pro" model, I would think that they would at least stick a 2 Tb drive in it.

There will be other DVRs but they will not be called HR34pro.
