HR34 problem or just directv?

Ok, ive never had a Directv dvr before, i now have dish and directv at my house.

Now on dish, with a 722 it is very easy to setup recordings and new shows. I have never had any issues with it not recording or recording too many shows.

I just setup my HR34 for various recordings and so far it hasnt really done anything correct besides one time recordings.

All the series shows i have setup on first run, but it continues to keep recording the shows ive already recorded and watched and deleted already. I set up first runs on shameless and house of lies. It recorded sundays shows, i watched then deleted them. It then recorded them again on monday, and now on tuesday......whats the deal?? they are the sunday shows yet and in the info it even says first aired on 3/4/12 and is setup on first run shows only......yet is still recording them??????????

You're the only one who seems to have this issue that I have seen. Maybe you set up your series links with the latter recordings, which would easily explain what your seeing. Since you're an installer, don't you have access to technical reports of bugs and things, and troubleshooting tips for this situation?
So your saying its just directv not working right then....

ya no tech bulletins on why the dvr records the wrong programs.

I guess this same thing happened on the hr24 i used as well. Same shows. keeps recording them all unless you leave the first one recorded on the hard drive, but why wouldnt i delete it if i watched it already? If i delete, it records it the next day.

Thanks for the help!!! this forum is awesome.

the dvr malfunctioning is NOT an installer problem, and i dont do customer service call center calls.

Also i switched the hr34 to 30skip mode, two days later it reverted back to 30slip. Hope that doesn't continue

When you setup up your recordings through "Smart search" once the programs start showing up on the right hand side you HAVE to look for the channel that you watch/record the NEW episodes on. If you happened to setup your series pass on a channel that only aires re-runs that would also describe what you are seeing. Just another thought for something you could check.

What program are you recording. I don't see this issue except on programs with guide data issues that come from a couple channels that don't believe in providing accurate guide data.
Our 34 has done this from the beginning. I have posted in numerous threads about that being one of the glitches. We just keep deleting programs time and again.
I have to use manual recordings on shows that have multiple recordings, mostly sports shows from NFLN and ESPN. I just set it up once and I only get that time slot every day or every week, etc.
Ya it is the first run shows, they are all on Sunday night on shotime. Its the right channel, i watch some of them live as they record and they are the new shows. As soon as i delete them, they record the next day again.

the shows are shameless, house of lies, and californication

the 30skip will bother me if it resets on every reboot.....that really sucks....

Since you mentioned it does this with a HR24, and I record two of those three shows on my 24, "something" on your end isn't right.
House of Lies & Californication are set to first runs, and record once. I usually watch them the same night, and delete. I don't have them record again until the next week.

There was a saying...something about knowing your product...

But back to the topic. To the OP: There has been several reported problems with the HR34. Whether your problem is related to the HR34 specifically I can't say (don't have one.) A quick search would list some of the problems this receiver is having (and the members having the problem.) In the past I've asked members to confirm an issue/problem with a specific receiver or setup by sending a PM. You might try the same.

Edit: I just checked with someone else who records Californication, and they do not have the problem on an HR24-500.

Is your HR34 rebooting very often? If it is, I can see why redoing the 30skip would become tiresome, even in the time between now and when that bug is fixed.

That also. might have something to do with your multiple recordings. If you are having lots of reboots, then the guide data may never be fully populated. I have seen some evidence that leads me to believe that even if a show title is available in the guide, the unique episode information may not be downloaded yet. In that case, the DVR would record the episode, "just in case" it was a new one.

Since you say you had the same problem with a HR24, I would look at your power situation first to see if that is causing reboots.

I can attest that this problem does exist for my HR34. I just leave them out there until next week so it will not record them again. But it is definitely a problem with the current HR34 software.

I am more than ready for the new HD GUI software for the 34 to arrive.
Guess they still havent fixed this.

This week it skipped the monday shows, but recorded tuesdays.

All 3 shows got recorded a second time

Shameless, House of Lies, and Californication

My HR34 records Shameless, House of Lies and Californication once and only once. I don't think this is a DirecTV thing. You may want to delete and re-setup your Series Links for these shows.

Are they the only ones doing this?
This is a 34 issue. I have had 3 and each spontaneously reboot and once that happens recordings that were set can be compromised and shows that have been recorded will be rerecorded. I finally gave up and went back to my 24. On top of the resets, my 34 would also sporadically not see other DVRs on the MRV network. And the 30skip issue occurs as well.
My 34 records extra shows and this is not the issue were the guide data is wrong like with pawn stars marathons. I haven't kept track of the shows because it only every now and then and it's more than the 3 shows above since I don't record those. I have had 2 spontaneous reboots while I was watching in the last 4 weeks.
On top of the resets, my 34 would also sporadically not see other DVRs on the MRV network.
My HR34 was doing that with my HR24 and HR22. I turned OFF the power saver thingie on both the 24 and 22 and haven't had a problem since. Just a suggestion.
