I was wondering if anyone had this problem with their HR34. I was watching TV this morning and all of a sudden the screen went blank, as if I lost signal from the HR34. The box still had power to it and the lights were on and etc. (Maybe it was a glitch.)

I turned my system off and turned it back on and everything seemed to be working again, but the box won't output in 1080i anymore. I try to go into settings on the HR34 and tried selecting 1080i, but I get a blank screen on the TV. I've tried to reset the box, and still I only get 480p output and no 1080i. When the box goes through it's rebooting process, the lights on the front of the box blinks to 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p and so on, but i can't get it to display 1080i anymore.

My TV is old. It's a HDTV RPTV. It's about 8 years old and I've never had any problems with it. The tv is connected to a receiver, via HDMI.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Try removing and reinstalling the HDMI cable.

Yes.
If that does not work, try bypassing the AV receiver and going directly to the TV from the DVR with the HDMI.

I had the same problem when I had Time Warner, but it always let me go back to 1080i. I'm hoping that I just have a bad cable because when I had Directv installed, I just told the tech to use the same HDMI cable that came from the AV receiver that I had before with TW.

Hopefully, it's just a bad HDMI cable.

Other than that, the service has been flawless and I just got it less than a month ago.

I will try switching out the cables tonight.

The recording should continue without interruption. It is coming into the receiver and placed on the hard drive. Think about what happens when you turn the DVR OFF. It still records.
If you are not comfortable doing that, then just wait until it is finished to play with the cable.

The HDMI cables, connections and software used in the different products is very finiky and causes a lot of problems to many people.

Yes, so true. I've had HDMI problems before and I ended up replacing the cable. So, I'm hoping that this is another case of bad cable. Thanks for your help. It got me thinking again.

If it's not the cable, try going directly from the DVR to the TV. Is the TV HDMI or DVI?

Thanks you for all of your suggestions. When I connect the box directly to the tv, it showed 1080i briefly and revert back to 480p. The 1080i signal was there, but for some reason it wasn't sticking. I checked the cable and reset a few time and still no go. (I'm new to Directv.) Finally after another reboot, I read the onscreen message that I can set the stb to 1080i by pressing "res" in front of the box. I did not knew this because I was using the remote to select the resolution. I selected 1080i in front of the box and it works!

Pressing the Format button on the remote will cycle each time you press it for the different resolutions that you have selected in the resolutions section of the Display area of settings.
If you have say, 1080i and 720p it will cycle between the 2 of them and the different formats that are available like stretch, original format, pillar box, etc.

At any time, did you hold down the exit button? That will set box to SD output. And back to HD.

I don't remember what exactly happened, but I do remember holding down the exit button to get out of a menu and then I was stuck in 480p, and then posted here for help.

The box is on native? Doesn't that send out the broadcasters format? If your RPTV is like mine, it will probably downconvert 720P to 480P. To my knowledge, those tv's were either 720P or 1080I, but not both. For that reason, I have my H25 box set to send out 480P and 1080I only. What that does is send 480I as 480P, which makes for a much better SD, and all HD as 1080I. I wonder if that's what your problem was. You were sending it a 720P signal and your set was downconverting to 480P, or a 1080I signal being downconverted, depending on what your tv's native format is. Just a thought, and something to check out.
