Huge Tempature Raise after 10b

1412 Views 16 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  flipper2006
Weird tempature issue.. When I used the HR20 before the update on Wednesday night, i was getting tempature of around 110-115. Then after getting the wednesday update my tempature dropped to 99-105. However, after getting the 10b update on friday night my temp zoomed up to average 125. Something certainly changed in the code.

Anyone else notice this???

Actually, most people reported an average of 125-127. Mine used to run in that range and cooled a bit with 0x108 but is now sitting comfortably at 125. Good to keep an eye on it though as heat kills!!!:)
3oF drop from 108->10B for me, this is assuming 72-74oF room temp.
The unit's "standard" operating temperature is 127.
That is the temperature the system is "set" to maintain by using it's internal fan.
Anyone try to fry an egg on their HR20 yet?

Still constant 127 here btw.

What is this temperature measuring? Processor? Ambient on the MotherBoard or HDD?

But Earl, why was much cooler with older version from Wednesday then its 125 now? The unit top is very hot now, previously it was warm.

Looping code or something...???
You HR20 is now running in the normal range. The better question would be why was it so cold before? Maybe your room Temp was lower before than it is now. Could have helped cooling.

could be at the time of checking the unit just complete some serious hard drive work or something like that.

The temperature sensor is part of the hard drive assembly.

Had no idea those things ran so hot!
Just FYI that is pretty normal for a computer. 127 F is about 53 C which is about normal for a computer after running a serious graphic intensive game.
Don't think mines ever read anything but 127...

Don't think those vent holes would hold much of the egg on top. !danger:

Bueler?
Maybe the update repaired a defect in the part of the programming that read the temperature?

Just guessing.
127 degrees explains why the laminate on the inside of my equipment rack is coming loose.

I lost a computer hard drive to heat. It was a second drive I added to a case that wasn't designed to handle the added heat. Now I keep the side off the case to make sure I'm not gonna lose the main drive to the same issue.

I just (the last few days) overhauled my equipment rack. I took every device out to the garage and blew a horrendous amount of dust out of them. When recabling I tied all the cables to one side or the other to maintain a clear "breeze" path front to back through the rack. Shelves were rearranged to put components where they had space around them. My HR20 is the only thing I have that reports temperature, and as the newest piece it was the cleanest. Take my advice, though, and clean you components periodically. Dust reduces cooling. Heat kills.
Since 10b (the past week) my temp has averaged at 127, which is a huge difference from all previous versions where the temp was 112-116 average. Now, maybe they just corrected a flaw in the temperature logic.

PS. My a/c is always on in the house, around 75%, so it's not that.
