I am thinking about purchasing a new Hughes receiver. Can someone tell me which is the best Hughes receiver out there that has Caller ID and a program guide that lets you watch the channel you have the receiver tuned to while you search the guide?

I currently have RCA brand receivers. I have two DRD420 and (1) DRD450RG receiver. The DRD450RG receiver is very slow and it also trips out every once in a while and has to go through a video setup mode in order to start receiving the signal from the satellite. This has happened 3 times in the last week.

Thanks for your help.

Jim

well dont expect an advanced program guide on the hughes boxes any time soon. im one of the few out there that has one, but i have internal connections at directv. i think hughes and directv suck for making consumers wait so long for this. if you need a APG non tivo box, you must put up with thomsons incredibly slow crappy RG box. Hughes boxes without the APG guide system will NEVER get it via satelite. Directv and hughes are not interested in upgrading cosumers boxes via satellite, they rather you suffer and then go and buy a new box when they come out in stores. either that or hughes and DTV are incredibly stupid people and they just dont know how to do it. again, it will NEVER happen. to check if your hughes box is APG or MPG, hit menu-->system setup-->features. if it says MPG, thats what you are stuck with.if you call hughes at 9545972080 and they tell you an upgrade is on the way, they are lieing !!! they will never upgrade, as i am a personal friend of the president of directv .

Jim,
I just bought the Hughes Director's pak recv (the non-DD recv). It's been great. I love the way the guide looks and response time is very fast. One thing to note, however, is that you can highlight another channel and the current channel will stay on in a window (or you can turn the window off if you like) BUT when you move the actual channel listing to get a description of the show, the channel will change to that show. When you click on exit, it will take you back to your original channel. I can live with this but it is annoying at times..

This has caller ID but I hear there is intermittent problems with it. (I don't use it myself)
