I live in NW Houston and my DIRECTV service was affected. We were w/o power for only a day in our area, but when the power came back on, I got the dreaded 771 code (searching for signal) on my receiver. I checked in my attic to ensure that my cable connections are fine which leads me to believe that it is likely my dish that got knocked out of alignment due to the wind. My dish is mounted on my roof and we had about 50-60 mph winds during the hurricane (correct me if I'm wrong anyone else in the area).

Unfortunately, the earliest DIRECTV could send a tech out to check my dish is today so now I am waiting anxiously to get my DIRECTV service back online :)

I live in midtown Houston in a 3 story townhouse. My Slimline dish is up on the roof and it made it ok. It has the monopoles installed and when power came back on 2 days after the storm, I had no problems. Signals still in the 90's. I think it's just a matter of how well the install was done. My neighbor's dish also on the same roof was out of alignment but they did not install the monopoles. I helped him with getting it back in alignment. Luckily I have a 40 foot ladder in my garage. Also, my fta motorized dish made it through ok. I installed that one myself. I did turn the dish(prior to losing power) so that the wind would be blowing sideways over the dish rather than directly on its surface. I figured this would reduce the wind load.

I've had pole and wall (concrete block) mounted dishes go through minor hurricanes (in terms of wind) with no problems whatsoever.

Losing signal (or not) is really just a matter of the direction where the storm is hitting from, just as with other fade events. If the heavy clouds aren't in the signal path, you're fine -- even when it's raining hard directly above.

I'm in Katy (west Houston) and did not lose signal (lost power for 5 hrs). It affected me in a different way. My new dish and HD-DVR were due to be installed on 9/18 and now has been delayed until 10/17 due to Hurricane Ike....I originally called on 8/25 to set up the appt....am missing many NFL games in HD at this rate.

Out in Katy and I never lost signal
As soon as the power came back on I was up and running again
I don't think my dish moved at all
Make sure to check your signal strengths on 99c and 103c. All my channels came up too after I got power, but I then noticed that 99c and 103c were down to the 29 to 51 range. The tech who came and readjusted my dish said it was moved about a quarter inch of out alignment.

My signal strengths are still the same
I live in an apartment so my dish is on the balcony
I was helped by the fact that my building (and the one next to me) shielded the wind from the dish

I'm up in Spring at Louetta and 45. Based on the wind speed #'s I saw from IAH, I'm guessing we had winds in the 70 to 80's (at least IAH was reporting 70's Friday night before I lost power). Thankfully, my neighbor "had" a couple of trees that took the brunt of the wind before it hit the dish. Not sure when his trees broke in half, but my slimline dish survived and stayed aligned. Lost power until the following Wednesday. However, another neighbor had a generator and ran an extention cord over to us on Saturday as soon as the winds dies down. Fired up the TV and the HR21 and we were back in business.
