I'm a satellite newbie moving into a new house soon. My house is prewired with only one RG6 feed going to my great room location where I will have my HR20 (I also have a phone line here). Putting in a second feed would be extremely difficult. HD locals are scheduled to be provided in my area by the end of the year. Will this receiver work with only 1 satellite feed, and if so, what will my viewing / recording options be?

My work order says I will get the 5-LNB Multi-Satellite Disk KaKu Compatible.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes, it will work with just one feed. You will only be able to record what you are
watching or watch something that was previously recorded while you are recording
something else.

Make sense?

You had better get started. Ideally, you should have three RG6 cables going to the HR20 (in the event that OTA is available).

It will function, but it will be less than half the value it could be with the appropriate number of feeds. Without some serious juggling, you won't be able to take advantage of the OTA tuners.

DirecTV is many months away from having a single wire solution (FTM) for the behemoth dishes.

As an alternative, all Dish Network receivers are single wire.

If you have HD locals in your market, you will get them thru satellite. OTA needs a separate RG6 cable from your antenna. When FTM is available you will be able to record two programs at once while watching another from a previous recording.

Maybe the installer will be able to run new cables for you, it may seem hard to you, but professionals can do it so much easier. If the installer offers I would let them, not all installers are incompetent.

I had problems getting the initial software downloads to work with just one wire. After I added a second wire, everything started working great. :)

I have the same setup - just a single cable with the 5LNB dish.
It works just fine but you are stuck with the limitations of having a single tuner.
So you cannot :
- watch one show and record another
- record 2 different shows at the same time.
You can - watch a recorded show while recording another.
I have pinned my hopes on the FTM. Hopefully that gets released soon, although every indication i have seen on this forum is sometime next year.
