I called DTV yesterday to ask them about an "Autorecord" problem I have been having with the HR20... I talked to this guy for about 80 minutes, and finally, he put me through to a "technician" that specializes in HR20's... This "technician" didnt even know what "Autorecord" was.. I told her that you can do this on the R15's as well.. She had never heard of it before... Needless to say, I did not get the problem solved.. I just cant belive that some DTV Personal didnt even know what "Autorecord" was.. Are these DTV service poeple that "un-trained ??" By the way, the "Autorecord" feature works fine on my R15, but not the HR20...

What is your definition of autorecord? Are you talking about a series link? I never owned an R15 (just TiVo's) so i am not familiar with that term.

Well, see I like Motocross, and that is under "Motorcycle Racing" in the guide.. If I were to just do a "SL" on Motorcycle Racing, it would record EVERYTHING in the giude that says Motorcycle Racing ( way to much" ).. So I do a "menu, " "search", "keyword" for "MOTOCROSS" If there is Motorcycle Racing that has "Motocross"in the info, I want to record it.. After you do a search by "keyword, or "person", you can follow the steps that are "category" and "sub-category and the option "Autorecord" comes up in the menus.. So it should record anything that has "motcross" in the info.. So then it wont record Super Bike Racing for example... All it does is narrow down the "search" results...

I use it. I did a keyword search for "NUCLEAR" and then pops up the autorecord feature on the upper left menu. Do it.. you get a little star by the R in the guide for everything the unit will record... anything with that word in any part of the title or info.

Works slick. Just wish there were more spaces in the prioritizer.. then I'd use it a lot more.

I've never seen a Tivo so I don't know. But it is nice. Usually records too many shows though... but better to delete shows that you don't want than to miss shows you do.

Tivo has a feature called 'wishlist' where you can specify show categories, keywords, titles, actor names (and some combinations of the above) to find shows matching the criteria. You could optionally say that you'd like to record any shows that meet the criteria automatically.

Watch out, if your HR20 records content you are not authorized to watch that can cause a strange lockup situation. I have one of these set up to catch any Purdue game, when I went to play the Purdue Penn game the message "searching for authorized content" popped up, I hit the list button and interface was locked up, sort of grayed out. I could not use my menu keys or exit out of the list menu. luckily my cursor was on the game in the list and as a last option before rebooting I hit the Dash Dash which worked, deleted the game and unlocked the screen.

All things being considered, my HR20 works pretty well.. Its just a question of understanding how it works, which can be a little confusing... I remember when I got my R15's.. They were junk !! It was slow to respond to the remote, but now, they run really well... The HR20 is still slow to respond to the remote.. Hopefully, that will change with future upgrades.. Basically, all of the problems I have had with both DVRs, has been caused by mis-information on the "giude," which I heard DTV has nothing to do with... The sad thing is, I know more about the R15's and the HR20's than most of the DTV Reps. I talk to

Yep, I bet that would work, even better if D* didn't let you get stuck in a trap.

seems to be a common thing:D* employees not haveing a cule.. maybe they should have a 'special' tech support option for this box, maybe they can have a few people that are trained to help on hr20. Would reduce a lot of mis-information..
