Is there only two models with dual tunners r15 and hr10? Is there any other ones and what is the best one.

There is also the HR20 HD DVR (the HR10 has been discontinued).

"Best one" depends on your requirements. The R15 is a standard definition DVR while the new HR20 is a high definition DVR.

There are many models of the dual tuner DirecTiVos with the R-10 being the newest with most hours.

To clarify a little bit - DirecTivo DVR's (such as the R10) have dual tuners AND dual live buffers. DirecTV DVR's (such as the R15 and HR20) have dual tuners but only one live buffer.

The difference is both can record two shows or let you watch one show while recording a second show. But the Tivo further allows you to toggle back and forth between two live shows while retaining the buffer (so you can pause, scroll back, etc.). If you are used to Tivo functionality, this is an important distinction.

Thank you for resopnding. I should have put more info. I am not looking for an hd dvr. I would like to modify the dvr. I know that you can not do anything with r15 and hr10 not 100% on this. Is there an early model that has dual tunners that i will be able to mess with and if so what model had the least problems. Also are the newer one's the only ones that can handle stacked lines or unstacked lines.

The HR10 can be modded but is a HD dvr. The DTivo R10 is SD and is the hardest to mod as it requires a chip replacement. Any Series 2 DTivo can be modded without the need for a chip replacement. The only place you will find those is on the used market such as eBay. Some Series 2 units are the SD-DVR40, SD-DVR80, RCA39, HDVR2 and more.

What sort of modifications do you want to make? Check out the "Tivo Underground Forum" at http://www.tivocommunity.com for some good resources.

The Tivo-based DirecTV DVRs do not have internal destackers, so you would need to use an external destacker with your stacked system.

thank you for the info. I see that i am probaly in the wrong area. is there any one model beter then the other in the series two or are they the same besides different maker and hard drive size. I do have a question can you use a stacker after a multiswitch?
