Set your 722 to Single Mode, then set your remote #2 (UHF remote) to controll your TV and Onkyo and your all set.

In Single Mode you can use either remote, in Dual Mode only #1 remote will work with the primary TV. You will NOT be forced to SD, I'm using this setup righ now and I get all the HD channels and HD output

oh sorry UHF remote, the hdmi is going into my Onkyo receiver
If you have shared mode on (I actually turn it off so a neighbor's UHF doesn't accidently control my DVR) and are in single mode, then the UHF remote will control TV1. Its also possible to use a UHF remote in dual mode, but that's not your case.

Ultra High Frequency.

The 722 and 622 come with two remotes. Remote 1 is Ifra Red only. Remote 2 is UHF and IR. (The IR to control TV and other equipment).

The UHF remote allows its user to control the STB in another room.
