WOW!! HDTV looks so bad through the HDMI cable, just can't figure out why. :rolleyes:

[rant]
It must have been that fact that the two techs for DirecTV didn't bring a HDTV dish with them for the "HD upgrade" that I ordered.
HD receiver = HD dish, right? :confused: :rolleyes:
[/rant]

Go figure, two weeks ago when I had a tech come out for the "Movers Connections" he was nice and everything worked correctly. I guess it's like any company (even my work) there are always some bad apples in the bunch.

If you would like some advice we could use some more information, what receiver do you have, can you tune HD channels, what type of TV, does it say Slimline on the dish, the more information the better, people here can and are willing to help you get underway.

i know you say they didn't bring the dish with them, but first question for ya.
what resolution do you have the reciever set at? you may still be set at 480i as it is the preset default. you should see on the front pannel on the reciever which resolution it is set at.
if it is set still on 480i you can go into the menu's and find the HDTV menu and set your resolutions that way or you can press the format button on the remote to cycle through them.

also, what model do you have?

Sorry about that, it was more of a rant. I got the HR21 today to add to my bedroom setup that already has 1 R10, 1 R15 hooked up to a DVD recorder via S-video and then to the 26" LCD TV via component.

Here is my current setup:

Dish* [2 LNB] -> 2 by 4
2 cables going to the living room -> Phillips 7000 Tivo
2 cables going to the second floor to a 6 by 8 (just installed on 7/12) -> 3 DVRs [R10, R15 & HR21]

* Dish is located on a pole that is in a 35 lb laundry soap bucket fill with concrete. (live in an apartment)

Have resolution set at 720P, but I can only get SD channels until Friday when DirecTV comes out again.

If you only have a 2LNB dish it's going to be really hard to pull in those HD channels.

I respect your rant but it sounds as though you need to get a DirecTV installer back out there.

The current way that my setup is, can they just run 2 cables straight up to the second floor from the dish or do we need a 4 by 4 to replace the 2 by 4?

Thanks
Im guessing that if your seeing a 2 by 4 switch its really a 3x4 and it needs to be removed It doesnt process HD

We have been having problems here in Minnesota and I sure elsewhere with DTV ordering upgrades to HD and not putting the dish on the work order. It can be fixed by calling the dispatch center for a work order change.

Although there are some techs a few out of my office I know for sure that if its not on the W/O they wont install it.

the only switch that would work with the new Ka sat's (99 & 103) is the WB68 multiswitch. which is a 6x8, and if i read one of your post that was already installed on 7/12? the 2x4 switch would be a no no. also remember to have the BBC's (the little grey or Black boxes) connected at your HR21 for you can get the new HD channels.

So does this mean that they would have to run 4 more cables up to the second floor since that is where the 6x8 is? (master bedroom) 2 cables for to the multiswitch and 2 from the multiswitch to the downstairs DVR. Yes, they did install 2 BBC's.

Yes, they will need to run 4 cables from the new dish to the location in which you want the multiswitch.

tivoman - Once you get that new dish, that 26" LCD TV you make mention of above should start looking REALLY good.

this is not a csr problem. It's a problem with the ordering system dtv uses, it's been an ongoing problem since I started at dtv , the ordering system rarely ever sends the correct equipment to the work order, back in the days of acsr/csg we could just go into the work order and add/remove equipment, but alas dtv decided to get rid of acsr/csg , with rio we did not have access to "fix" a work order like we did with acsr/csg. So glad I no longer work there.

Your gonna need more than a new dish.
That's a good point. To the OP, do you have enough space for one of these?

If so, CLICK HERE and you'll find a whole assortment of tripods you can use. Just make sure to select one that's built for an AT9 or AU9 and often called a "super dish". :)
