I Love D* - Subtitled: My Week With Comcast

I was very excited to learn that my vacation rental had two HDTVs. I was pleasantly surprised, as the standard for a rental property seems to be a 25" DVD/VCR/TV combo set. They turned out to be very nice Vizio plasmas, one 46" and a small one in the bedroom. The local provider was Comcast which was absolutely brutal. No rhyme or reason to channel number, (Gotta love D*s groupings), two button presses to get the guide. The guide when you got was awful to navigate, I almost threw the remote on several occasions. My wife, who complains on occasion about D* for this reason or that, said she will never complain again. I agree 100%.

This just adds on to the argument that CABLE STINKS!!! :hurah:
Totally agree, I have tried quite a few cable boxes (including some that are VERY similar hardware to the HR2x series, just different software) and they all stink.

So confusing to use, things are not laid out at all, channels are all over the place (dish is the same way with channels everywhere).

I think people who complain about the directv stuff have yet to really try many other things.

in latin that would be Odorifferious Cableum
I have both with both HD DVR's and you get used to the diferences quite easily. I honestly thought the world would end when I had to give up my TIVO to go HD, and it didn't, who knew? Funny thing is that Comcast is suppost to roll out TIVO software at some point and what if I don't like it?
title should say "I Love D* - Subtitled: My Week With Comcrap"
the comcast tivo software will be a Premium dvr software and you will have to pay extra for it. It's not something that will be rolled out by default to everyone.

True, but from what I have read it will be minimal, $3 to $5 per month.
I made a conscious effort to be objective, but I just didn't like much about it. Small things like not being able to navigate the guide by punching in a channel number wore on me. For example, if you're in the guide searching the 100s and need to get to 700, you press 700 which takes you out of the guide and to the channel (after a moment). Then you have to hit the guide button again, then select "Program Guide". Doesn't sound like much, but it was extremely cumbersome.
Yeah, we have cable at our beach condo and it’s crap. We would put in D*, but the building has an existing contract with Cox. In order to connect to a satellite dish, we would have to pay a “rental fee” on roof space plus another rental fee on the cabling required. With Cox, the service is dirt cheap and includes high-speed Internet. Really, it’s not a big deal as we don’t go down there to watch TV anyhow. As long as we can get the news, we’re in good shape.

You mean it doesn't take HD from DirecTV to see that the hurricane is HERE, NOW?

For most people it is a matter of what is the biggest payoff with the least inconvenience (monetarily or otherwise). Sometimes cable makes sense.

Been following it on tivocommunity. Looks a bit still-born.
I had a similar experience with my Uncle's cable system. Horrible navigation, HD channels spread around here and there ,with no real designations. Guide was TvGuide, awful, just a cpl of channels on-screen at a time. It was a decent looking box though, LOL.
Yeah. Precisely why I didn't get cable, even though Time Warner provides my cable internet.
