.......i have a few questions. I have numerous discounts like $10 a month Referal, $35 off for 1 year (i started in May), etc, but i may suspend and go back to TWC for about 6 months because of the Lakers. My question is, will i regain my discounts when i return? Or will i lose them? In other words, if i get approx. $50 off for a full year, May to May....does it continue from where i left off or will those six months be retroactive?
I may suspend DIRECTV for a few months but....

OK, thanks. Just checked the latest TWC bundle ( i still have TWC internet). About $92 for the bundle, the TV package is equivalent to the Choice Ultra plus $30 on DirecTV which is about $74. So i'm saving about $20 per month with DirecTV. I could drop down to a lesser package with TWC but it's not worth it. I would miss a lot of channels ( i only watch HD ). I am a die hard Laker fan, but if DirecTV doesn't carry it, well, i'm not switching. Maybe i'll figure something out pertaining to the Internet, although i live in LA so that might be impossible.
OTA apparently doesn't work for the Lakers new channel. It's basic cable but it seems unrealistic for TWC knowing something that you can buy ($50, price of an Indoor antenna) when in fact they paid billions of dollars for the Lakers. It can't be that easy, can it?trh said:

The TWC bundle price may be $92, but watch out for the monthly charges on the DVR's and set-top boxes. They are much higher than either DirecTV or FiOS.lipcrkr said:

I never had DVR and never wanted one, i have the H25 from DirecTV. The reason why i left TWC was because of the high cost and DirecTV fits the bill with the Choice Ultra. It was only going to be a few months, but the heck with it. Worse case scenario........watch about 25 broadcast games and the rest listen to the radio and make believe it's "Chicky" Baby.

Trust me when I say I have been monitoring and following the situation with Time Warner Cable SportsNet and it's TV provider competitors.
I am in the same situation as OP and even gave him the suggestion of going this route.
Trust me when I say Directv is going to see a big loss of customers as we get closer to the start of the regular season and if D* does not have a distribution deal with TWC SportsNet to carry this channel.
People who are in or out of contract in the Lakers DMA territory will cancel or suspend their D* accounts over this issue if Time Warner is available in the area where they live.
I myself already have an appointment for TWC to install service this Saturday the 29th.The same day my D* account is getting suspended.

As someone who recently dropped DirecTV for TWC I'd offer this advice:
1) Suspend before you cancel. If you're still in your initial two years you probably don't have that luxury
2) TWCs equipment sucks on toast. If I didn't have a TiVo to buffer the experience, I wouldn't have jumped ship
3) TWC has done a good job of adding HD and the recent addition of the NFL Network was the final piece of the puzzle that I needed
In 1998 I felt there was no way I would ever go back to TWC, but it's the only good High Speed Internet option available to me and item #3 cinches my decision. YMMV.

Call TWC to find out what the lowest price package they have that includes the Lakers channel is. They might have something lower than the lowest advertised package that has just your local OTA channels and the Lakers Channel (and perhaps the PAC 12 channels) that they do not promote. If so, keep DirecTV for everything else and have TWC just for the Lakers.
