I decided to get rid of Dish Network because the removed the VOOM channels and the general picture quality has declined in the last two years . I called my local cable provider and they are about $20 dollars cheaper a month than Dish and they offer significantly the same channel lineup

SO, I had Cox Cable hook up HD Cable today and I gotta say it looks AWFUL.

The best example is the USA Network show Psych (which I like.) I watched it last night on Dish and thought it looked okay, but today on Cox cable it looked like it was a 20 year old film-of-the-week made for Guatemalan TV. I looked so pixelated, grainy, and SOFT that it was almost unwatchable. (I know Psych is done on the cheap and shows grain in most episodes but maybe Cox is compressing it just *a little too much* and turned that grain into horrible m-jpg artifacts AND introduced the softness that I saw. Grainy would be one thing, but it looked *AWFUL*.


So even though Dish has declined in quality it may be superior to Cox Cable?

San Diego does not have FIOS in *any* area, and AT&T U-verse is not in my area.

Maybe Cox is just gotten considerably worse since I made the switch to Dish a few years back?

Anyone else run into this problem at their house? What should I do?

Well, if cable was an option for me, I would go look at a friends before I decided to cancel my E* account. But, since that is already done it seems that your only choice is to call E* and see what they could do to get you hooked back up or, call D* and see if they have a package that fits you price range.

I dunno, but I think the adage "You get what you pay for" applies here. Call DISH back. If you still have their equipment and put it back, they might waive the $25 reinstatement fee.

It would have been smart if you put your account on hold for $13 to confirm that you would actually like the cable. But since that is no longer an option you can either go to D* or go crawling back to dish.

Long time charter cable subscriber and after watching charter hd for 2 years and my Dish hd for ONE weekend, Dish hd blows cable away, period. IMHO.

cable companies also tend to be offering "Introductory Offers" that are $20 less than their normal offer, and people don't realize it until the bill jumps up after the first year.
With all the additional fees for box rental, remote rental, dvr fees, franchise fees, etc. Cable can still seem to just barely beat satellite on price, but then the price goes up and you find sat is really $18 cheaper.

I have not disconnected Dish yet, I asked them to cancel me this upcoming Friday, so I can call and cancel-the-cancelation.

Cox does have good CSRs, they are located in my town and know what they are talking about - but the picture quality is quite bad (IMHO.)

I kept Dish running to prepare for something like this.

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that Cox's picture is worse than Dishes.
