I recently moved and was granted DNS for NBC HD from NYC, and the SD feed of CW and PBS. I only really want to pay for the NBC HD feed since I never watch anything on CW and I can get my local PBS with my antenna, so I see no point paying $3.50/mo for those two.

Can I cancel just the CW and PBS feeds and keep the NBC HD feed?

And if something changes in the future where I need to get one or both of them back, will I be able to fairly easily?

Thanks.

Everything I have read about grandfathered DNS has indicated that if you ever cancel, you will never get them back. However, if you were granted the DNS service because you are in an "unserved" area, it may be possible to get them again.

Would mine be considered grandfathered? I just got them 2-3 weeks ago when D* was installed at my new house.

What exactly does "grandfathered" mean in terms of DNS anyways?

No you wouldn't be grandfathered in. You would have had to have it for much longer.
So I'd be able to get them back in the future if need be?

You may not be considered "grandfathered" since you may be what is considered an "unserved household" depending on where you live.

"Grandfathered" refers to someone who had DNS before the rule change that disallowed DNS if you can receive local broadcasts.

If you received be it grandfathered or by being eligible and disconnect you still will have to go through a waiver process. Those are the current rules. If you were eligible and received waivers the first time and received the post card you as I said will have to go through the short process again waivers. Cheers!

If at some point Directv turns on LIL for your area of those feeds, you won't be able to have DNS feeds. (this is assuming that you didn't have to get waivers to get the channels in the first place, that you are getting DNS because you physically can't receive any OTA signals where your at) If you had them at the time they light up the locals, they will shut them off then. So basically, as long as your eligible, you should be able to get them back at any time. Once your no longer eligible, you'll loose them permanently, it won't matter if you have them or not.

If you think you may want those DNS feeds anytime in the future, I sure wouldn't drop them now. You may never be able to get them back and you really aren't IMHO saving that much money.
I'll have to give a +1 on this. It is often so hard for those who qualify to get DNS, I sure wouldn't take a chance on trying to get them a second time.

When I first got D*, locals were not available. I requested and received both the east and west coast feeds for CBS and Fox. I ended up dropping the West coast feeds and when I did was told that I could not get them back without requesting another waiver. When D* finally offerred my area (Richmond, VA) locals in SD I called D* and asked for the HD feeds for the channels I had waivers for (Ch 80 & 88) which was granted. This morning D* finally has our locals in HD and I anticipated losing the East coast feeds but I just checked and I still have them. We'll see how much longer I will.

I'm thinking of getting rid of only the SD version of CW (I never watch that channel) and PBS (I can get local PBS in HD with my antenna). I'm going to keep the NBC HD feed from NYC. The other networks (FOX, CBS, ABC and MyNetwork) all denied my waivers as I can luckily get them all with my antenna. D* does not offer any locals - SD nor HD - where I know live, and I think it's going to be quite some time before they do as my new DMA is in the 150s.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll have to decide what to do now.
