Well, this will pretty much kill us getting Gameplan again as we only get it for teh SEC teams that are on.

Actually - If you are getting Gameplan for the SEC teams, this would pretty much guarantee Gameplan would be worth it.

There are only so many ESPN properties, and they will still show other games at times, that the only way to get all SEC games will be with Gameplan. What this does guarantee is that the SEC games will be produced and distributed by ESPN which will make them available on Gameplan and in local markets. I know at times we used to get some of the local games (Missouri and Illini) in St. Louis on local channels under the ESPN+ brand.

Thank God Raycom is out now! Our local ABC had Raycom games, and preempted ABC's regular Saturday games.....

Many a weekend the OU/Texas game has been tape delayed so we could see a Vanderbuilt/Ole Miss powerhouse matchup! Plus our ABC affiliate does not have a HD tape delay unit, so we got to watch the game in glorious SD.

I much prefer this. The marketing of the SEC and the upside to recruiting outweighs any SEC channel. Plus with the guaranteed money there is little to no downside. The only potential downside is in 15 years the $$$ may seem low - but history shows most deals like this benefit the recipient and NOT the broadcaster since the market changes and demographics change.

I think forcing the SEC in front of thousands of potential recruits nationwide on the ESPN networks is a huge benefit. And we also have the potential of ABC picking up some of the ESPN covered big SEC games due to the partnership.

You know, I was not thinking about it that way. I was thinking that ESPN would carry more of the games on the ESPN properties (thus eliminating them from GP), but you are right, they still can't show them all. At least maybe this would give us a chance at soem HD on GP then.

I wasn't. Because of the fact that cable would fight tooth and nail to keep from carrying it. Unless it was on their terms, to where they could squeeze money from the customer by making them pay rent for a digital cable box.
