I'm so fed up with blank recordings! - Going with multiple Hauppage HD PVR's and Sage

This happened sporadically in the past, but lately has been a pain.

I have a HR21-700 btw. MLB EI package + superfan for the HD.

Two nights in a row I have recorded Boston and NY off of the 720X-1/730X-1 channels; the next morning I went to play them and I got the dreaded "Would you like to delete".

So last night I did the same. But I paused the NYY game and this morning I was able to play it, but the Boston game was the usual blank recording crap. All my signals are great too by the way.
If I try to record the games on NESN/YES channels it says "Unable to record this channel" even though I can still view it.

Call Directv last week and "they are aware of the problem" and gave me 6 months free DVR service. Big whoop.

This has been going on for about 3 months - I have been resetting the HR21 just about every day and last week removed the external drive just for troubleshooting purposes.

This is ridiculous after forking out $240 for the MLBEI package to not be able to watch my games the next morning.

So, being a SageTV customer, I purchased 2 additional HD-PVR's (already had one) along with 2 new H21 non-DVR receivers so I'll be using the Sage guide, will not have Advertisements in my guide, will be able to record and keep PPV, will have triple live buffers and can set my rew/ff times to whatever I want. Plus I can archive anything and everything.

Goodbye, 50 limit seasons passes.
Goodbye slow to respond remote.
Goodbye, crappy Directv interface and the blank recording headache!

Believe me, I understand the frustration. That's why I switched to Dish from DirecTV.

But I don't believe you'll be able to record PPV since they're shutting down the component outputs on the PPV channels. You have to use HDMI - wasn't that just announced? I'll have to find the link...

There is some speculation that these problems are relate to signaling issues. Did you check all you satellite connections, BBC’s and grounding? I discovered a loose connection at the multiswitch was causing issues on my HR20.

On another note, how do you like the HD-PVR? I’m thinking of getting one and connecting it to the H20 in my home office to use the PC as a DVR.

Well even if not PPV, it's ok. Still should be able to watch/archive HBO and all my MLB games. Plus NBA this winter...

I've been running one for about a month - if you have a dual core box with a decent video card playback should be fine. I wouldn't try it with a single core box though, at least the playback of the H.264 files.

I don't buy that at all. My signals were fine, are fine, and will continue to be fine. I have no pixelation problems and no lost channels.

Everything is great, except, twice since getting this update I have had blank recordings for MLB Suckerfan. Both times they happened AFTER the recording was finished.

I NEVER had a blank recording on my HR20-100, which I've had for a year, until these two blank ones for MLB Suckerfan.

It is not a signal problem.

I had none of that, either. However, I discovered a bad connection at my multiswitch. I had noticed intermittent and brief "771" errors when changing channels, but that, and a few blank recordings over the last 6-8 months, were my only issues.

Which update? I've had no blank recordings after the latest NR (0x254 on my HR20's). Are you saying you watched the live broadcast but the replay was blank?

It is not a signal problem.
I'm not saying that it's not related to the software, but what I am suggesting is the possibility that it's an issue of the software (or maybe the circuitry in the receiver for the SWM) being very sensitive to signal losses.
