You may have noticed the EKB link has disappeared from the DBSTalk logo portion. This is because we have moved to a new server, the space for which was provided by LER over on SatelliteGuys. The big deal was that a lot of SatelliteGuys readers did not like the ".dbstalk.com" in our URL. This allows us to provide total neutrality both in URL and in content.

To access the new EKB, you can use our domain names or use our new direct URL - http://tbh.lerctr.org/~ekb/ - and add the name of the page from there, with one exception for my News Monitor (http://tbh.lerctr.org/~ekb/News/raymie.php) and possibly several other pages.

Please note that this has not been noted by either of the people higher up the EKB chain (TNGTony and BobaBird).

Thank you to Chris Blount for helping us move from what was beginning to become an unstable home, and thank you to Larry Rosenman for providing us our new server space.

I would like to thank Chris and DBSTalk.com for hosting the EKB under a sub-domain for several years. They did nothing to prompt us to leave, and allowed us to operate independently with no editorial control. I found the hosting to be better than I would have expected, even more so after the last server upgrade. The decision to move the main site was simply that even after several years of repeatedly explaining our independence, an active set of potential supporters would not see beyond the URL. So we are just as independent today as before, but now have an address to "prove" it. I'm sorry it came down to leaving our established home. Again Chris, thank you.

I'll also miss having "ekb" as part of the URL. I was hoping to get ekb.info as the domain as it's short and has the magic letters, but an ad squatter took it after I checked its availability.

There are a lot of ways to get EKB back as part of the URL, but I miss being able to use Search at the home page. If you search for "twin", you get but a single reference for now (Raymie's Twin Cities). It will build, but then you'll pick a different URL??

Your Here's why gives a 404 so YOU should change your sig to .php. The "old" EKB is still accessible as http://www.dbstalk.com/ekb/index.htm and search works there to find things - you just can't click on them. It at least gives you 10 hits searching for DPP instead of none searching from http://www.dishuser.org/. You have to massage the URL listed in search results to get there, but it is better than having a search that gives you nothing.

From this end user perspective, the change is pretty negative. Just an old fart resisting change!

I noticed the change right away because the link is missing from the top of this page and I always used it from there. I found it on the home page. So I just (bookmarked, Firefox) (favorited, IE) the new link. I know that for now I have to start my searches from your site search until Google et al. catches up.

About change. Resistance is futile. The Borg taught Jean-Luc and all us other old farts that.;)

It is searches FROM the new site that don't work.

They won't work until Google (and not others) collect pages via "dishuser.org". Search Engines continue to list ekb.dbstalk.com matches but if someone were to create a file for http://ekb.dbstalk.com/robots.txt that disallowed *, the old references would be dropped from Google/Yahoo/...

I wouldn't want http://www.dbstalk.com/ekb/ to go away though - that is the OLD search that still works to "find" things - just can't click on the results.

The longer the old stays around the longer that it will be in the search engines.
As the 404 errors start to hit the search engines will cleanse themselves.

Time for people to learn the new URL --- http://www.dishuser.org/ is probably the easiest to remember.
