Due to some heavy rain and winds last week, I have been losing signal to all 3 satellites. I started playing with the dish 1000 and managed to get signal strength for Sat 110 and 119 signal from low 50's to low-mid 90's and Sat 129 from 0 to mid 50's. I can't seem to get anything higher than 55 for Sat 129 without losing signal for 110 and 119.

I only moved the dish left and right and didnt have the tools to losing the dish so I can move tilt it up or down.

Do you guys think tilting up or down a litte will increase signal strength for 129 without decreasing 110 and 119?

I called dish and they can send someone out to my place tomorrow night but they want to charge me $30. If I can fix this myself then I'll be saving myself $30.

Advice anyone?

Well, if you are willing to do it, get the tools to fix the elevation, as that could easily be a major difference in your signal (as can then the skew), but if all they want is $30 I would just pay it and save the hassel...

Really it's your call and what it's worth to you. The 'tools' needed is just a socket set, nothing special really. Heck, it's just one size too, though can't remember the exact one, maybe 1/2"? Just need to loosen the nuts a bit try raising/lowering and adjusting skew slightly to see if it helps then re-tighten. Just make sure you mark where everything was before in case you want to go back.

I'll play with it tonight. and if I can't get it to where I want then I guess I don't really have a choice but to have someone sent to my place. Afer all, I did pay for high end 60" HDTV. $30 is well worth if it means receiving good hd source. My main concern was it there was some trick to it but I guess it's just a matter of setting it in the right position. Thanks guys

Rommel,

you are going to have a difficult time getting a good signal on 129 with the 110/119/129 all on a Dish 1000

I would suggest getting another d500 or a 76cm dish for 129.

In the meantime... run a tv out by your dish and turn on the Point Dish menu, get a ladder and start adjusting.

I used my old Dish 500 for 110/119, and then threw the DP dual on the center of the three prong fork, and used the D1000 for 129 alone.

I'm getting 60's-80's on 129 now

I did however just order a 76cm dish. I will report my findings probably next weekend when I install the new dish

Another way to adjust without having a sat finder or a TV nearby is to use phones. What I've done in the past is call my house phone from my cell phone and put the house phone near a speaker with the point dish screen up for a particular sat. Then I put on the headset for my cell phone so my hands are free and head up to the roof. Works pretty good.

What a great idea! I have aways used my kids as relays from me to the tv in the house. Kind of feel foolish now!

I need as much signal from 129 as i can get

Cokeswigga, I understand many people have hard time getting good signal when not using to different dish. I'm probably one of the lucky ones because I've have good signal from all 3 Satellites using Dish 1000 until strong wind hit San diego.

I'm also lucky enough to have the tv less than 20 feet away from the dish so I can just turn up the volume to hear signal strength.

Maybe you are lucky and it's just a quick re-adjust cause the wind knocked it off....

it's a good thing it doesn't get too windy in san diego that often.

My 129 comes in at around 65 as well, but if it clouds over and especially when it rains, my signals drop big, and I have a lot of pixelization and drops.

it's the last thing I want on superbowl sunday...
that why I'm upgrading my dishes, and pre-amp on my antenna

(i wish the 622 didn't require a sat signal to allow OTA use)

K so I was played around with the dish and got crazy signal strength for 110 and 119. Sat 110 was at 89 and Sat 119 was at 105 and 129 was at 57. I did not know that 129 can't get any signal stronger than 65. At least that's what the guy told me. So I allowed dish to come thinking he might get increase signal for 129. He got it all the way up to 60 but the second he left it started to drop all the way to 55. Not only did he lower my 129 signal but my 110 dropped to 83 and 119 tp 95!! WTF!

I should have asked around to see what the highest signal people got with their 129 without using a separate dish.

to those who are using a second dish for 129, how much stronger is your signal?

So now I have to pay dish $30 "because they sent someone out here" lame.

That sucks...
also remember, that things change as weather conditions change. So if it's cloudy today, and you are comparing signals to 2 days ago when it was clear and sunny, you are comparing apples to oranges.

I have a seperate dish for 129, and depending on what it like outside and what transponder I check, I have singals strength from 50's to 80's on 129.

I did however just order a winegard 76cm dish. I should get it next week. So by next weekend, I should be able to post a report about the difference.

Other people have been reporting a 20 point jump when moving to this dish.

the winegard 76cm for around $40-$60 seems like an affordable alternative. Can this be attached to the same pole the dish 100 is on? or is it too big and might require a second pole. I live in an apartment and can't drill anything so a pole would be my only solution. I already have a 10' pole in the balcony that's barely high enough to get signal. A higher pole with 2 heavy dish on it might be a little sensitive to wind. I don't want to waste my dish by having the wind landing it on my neighbors head while he smokes his cigarettes on the patio.

don't forget about shipping.... I think I paid 50 for shipping too.. unless you can find a dealer in san diego who has one or won't charge you shipping to order it.

Your wind issue might be valid one, as for your neighbor smoking, maybe a big dish landing on his head might help him to think twice about smoking :)
