My DVR was nearly flawless in the beginning, but the last month or so it has gone downhill drastically. We have had to restart it several times due to lockups, "stuck" recordings, and black recordings. Tonight I have a black recording for "So You Think You Can Dance", even though I checked while it was recording and there was a picture on that channel. This time restarting the recorder did not recover the recording. Grrrr!

Over the past week I've had more lock ups and issues with my HR20-100 than I have had since I got it last October. It has turned into a peice of junk all of the sudden. I've had to RBR 6 or 8 times and had to delete 5 or 6 recordings. I am really hoping the new update fixes this.

I think it is temperature related but have been argued against here. I have an HR20-100 that has run trouble free for almost a year. I added an external fan when new and keep the box below 100. I introduced a trashy Cavalry eSATA drive that ran hot and had IKDs, blank recordings, etc. Switched to a cool running Antec MX-1 and am again running cool and stable.

The most noticeable change in this hemisphere the last few months is summer

My temps always runbetween 89 and 93.

I have narrowed down the problem a bit. The DVR seems to lock up most often when I am watching a recording and try to pause or RW. It never locks up when I am simply watching TV.

I had to do another RBR this morning. My wife is ready to throw this DVR out into the driveway and runnover it with her car.

Our HR20-100 ran flawlessly (got it in 12/07) until about a month ago. Now all of a sudden we are getting blank recordings, lock ups and searching for SAT messages everytime there is a cloud in teh sky.

My wife is ready to throw this thing out of the window as well..

It would be helpful if you folks could list your sat signal strengths .. Particularly for the following locations:

101
110
119

103(c)
99(s)

There are a lot of numbers and the more you can add the better, but certainly if you can give a general idea of what they are on each sat location.

My HD locals are down today along with a few other HD channels on my HR20-100, and I'm getting all zeros on 103°. D* is sending a tech but he wont be here until 7/20!
Can you reach the dish? to see if it is loose? 103(s) may show numerous zeroes .. 103(c) should show most transponders active.

I've mainly had issues with the "searching for signal" issues recently. Usually, if it says that then I know we have a good storm coming, but it has happened 3 or 4 times in the past month with just regular cloudy skies.

Signal strengths are all 88-100. No issues with pixilation or anything. Just lots of lock ups caused when watching a recording or watching TV when it's recording.

The problem we are having seems to be tied to 0x235. Our DVR's functioned well until the past3 or 4 weeks.

I feel like I should be given at least $50 off my bill for having to deal with all this.

The signal strengths are good, I'm assuming that you check each sat location .. you may want to go back and verify both tuner one and tuner 2 as well to make sure that they are both seeing the sats well.

Have you reported the issues in the issues threads over the past 3-4 weeks?

I started reporting in the HR20-100 0x235 issue thread starting last week when the lockups were becoming more and more frequent.

The frustrating thing for many of us is that our HR20's were working great until 0x235. Since October through June 16th I had probably 5 lock ups that required RBR. In the past week I have had 10 including 2 today. Since 6/17 was released I have probably had 18-20 lock ups that required RBR. It's maddening.

My satellitle signals are all in the low to mid 90s. There are a few zeros, such as 119, 31 - but I think that's normal. The signal strength is the same for tuner 1 and tuner 2.

The one thing that really seems to happen is that when I press Start Over to begin a recording, it comes up and says "Do you wish to Delete" and the screen is blank. Also when I pause and rewind it occasionally gets stuck and then I have to press the Reset.

Could it be the disk is fragmented or going bad?

I think that just confuses the issue. Since all DVR/IRDs are designed to NOT lock up when signal strengths drop out, it makes no sense at all that low signal levels could be the root cause.

What might make sense is listing the OS release you are on. 235 seems to be very problematic, and in other threads, these sorts of posts seem to always point to it as the cause.

I, myself, have had lockups since 235.

Had to do 2 red button resets yesterday because the DVR froze. Today we had another messed up recording. Is there some way to revert to the previous software?
