Indianapolis MPEG4's

I recently contacted the 2 missing networks from my local HD lineup. CBS and FOX and here is what they had to say:

CBS: Thanks for your e-mail.

At this time, I cannot predict when our HD signal will be available on Directv. Negotiations continue, but I had not heard that a resolution is expected soon.

Best Wishes,

Lance Carwile
Programming

and FOX:Sorry Josh...no timeline. We have made several presentations to DIRECTV

According to these responses it sounds as if it is DTV that is the hold-up. I am sick of waiting for this and the OTA's, and I can't get a waiver either. When I called Sep 8th when I got the box, the person told me it would take longer for the waiver to go through than the OTA's to be turned on. Well, if December is now the timeframe, I am not only pissed, but have also been told wrong information. I know I know things change, but come on!
I will say it again, all I wanted this box for was to record local channels prime time shows in HD. And I can only do half of that, half of the time. Just very frustrating.

What else did you expect the affiliate to say? That it was there fault?
It takes Two to Tango... So I am sure there enough "blame" for both sides.

As for being told about the Waivers... you can request the networks for your waivers too. So if they responded to you already with your MPEG-4 question, they should respond equally as quick for the waivers... (as it is the affiliate that has to aprove the waiver)

As for OTA... There is no "set" date... as things change... They are still trying for October, but it will most like slip into November... They need to stablize the box more, and fix the existing critical issues, before they can add in such a significant change as OTA recording.

I know it sucks not to have all 4, but you have at least 2.. .and that is 2 more then you had last TV season. When I got my HR10-250... only 2 of my local networks even broadcasted in HD... Next season, all 4 where HD capable... but most of the shows wheren't in HD....

Now about 3 years later, just about ever show I watch in primetime is HD...
It will happen.

Earl thanks for the response. Yes I am frustrated, but yes I also realise I can at least record "some" hd network shows. I just wish it were all 4 and trouble free i.e the FF issue. And by the way are random lines flashing up while playing back typical? This is MP4 ABC which is 720p.
But I don't get what type of "negotiating" there is to do. Either its on there or its not. Why wouldnt a network want it on there, and are there monetary issues here?
Random lines...
"Typical" enough, that is probably a bad bit or something in the transmission... It happens... But if it is a cronic problem (especially if you rewind and it is not there the 2nd time), something else might e wrong.

As for Negotiating:
Disclaimer: This is based entire off speculation and not off any information I have gotten from DirecTV...

There are so many pieces to the puzzle.
-) How is DirecTV going to get the signal from the Affiliate to DirecTV... OTA? Fiber? Other? who is going to "pay" for that transmission
-) What is the HD-Spot beam coverage area... some people have reported that in some cases, DirecTV can not guarantee coverage over the entire DMA... so those on the fringe may have issues getting the signal... and the affiliates want all or nothing
-) Some affiliates have reportedly been askign for payment for the HD signal (not sure why, since it only helps them get THEIR signal out there)
-) Guarantees that EVERYONE in the DMA have their HD-DNS disabled... regardless if that particular customer is capable of receiving the MPEG-4 signal or not.
-) Wanting ALL of their subchannels to also be carried...

I'm on westside of Indy and I also get the random lines....

I also got the same response from both Fox and WishTV-8....unfortunately those are the two channels that have sunday football and if the games are broadcast on them, then they are blacked out on Sunday Ticket.

How do we apply for waivers?? I'm willing to do it rather than wait and see if they come to a deal.

To apply for a waiver, call DirecTV first... they will submit the waiver.
2nd you can write to each of the local affiliates and apply directly.
