Informal poll regarding the DirecTivo HD

Now that a DirectTV HD Tivo has been announced, I'm curious.. how many of you plan to replace your HR-20 or HR-21 with a Tivo unit?

I'm extremely curious what the price points on the new units will be and whether they will support everything the HR's do, such as On Demand.

I might replace one of the units, but perhaps not both of them. This depends a lot on what the premium on having a Tivo is. if a HD DirecTivo is 500 dollars, then probably not. But if its the same cost as an existing HR unit -- at around the $300 dollar price point, or if DirecTV offers it to their existing subscribers at a special rate, then I probably will shelve one of my HR units or maybe even both.

Where's the poll?
I wasn't aware non-mods could actually post a poll.
Yes, they can.

Have you looked at any of the other numerous polls?
Maybe just expand and add the HD Tivo while keeping your HR20-21. I have 3 of those, 1 HR10-250 and 2 older 35 hour Tivo's and I have the HR10-250 on same TV as an HR20 so I in effect have DLB! I like to record a lot of stuff and make DVD-R while watching the other one. I only paid 250.00 for the HR10 so I'm sure those who initially paid 995.00 will want a better deal. I bet it will be around 500.00 initially then drop a couple hundred.

I can't answer the question until I see the unit... I would not acquire a TIVO unit just because it is TIVO.. I have had TIVO before and had no complaints, but I feel no draw to it because it is TIVO. I also had a Microsoft Ultimate DVR (I kind of miss that one) and I now have several DirecTV HR units which I thoroughly enjoy.

When the TIVO unit comes out I will look at it and decide then. If it presents a compelling reason for me to acquire it, and the price is reasonable I will add it to my system.

You covered my sentiments exactly.

I'm basically in the same boat as Larry. I loved my old TIVO boxes, but I've grown to love my HR2x's, and barring some quantum leap in capabilities, I don't see any reason to change.

The only thing I can definitively say at this point is I will not pay an extra monthly fee for a Tivo. If the pricing structure is such that there is a montly charge to have the Tivo GUI, then I'll do without.

If the montly pricing structure remains the same, then depending upon the price of the new Tivo box, I may or may not try one out.
Is there anyway all DirectTV Tivo Polls and Threads be combined into one thread, like the Dish people did with Voom? Way to many things popping up on this Vaporware subject. And yes its VaporWare until its released.
I'd consider it if it can demonstrate reliability and no significant features are missing.

It if adds important features (such as being able to archive shows) I might buy one just for that.
I'll tell you if I'm going to cross that bridge in about a year after I actually see the bridge, and see how it compares to the road I'm on now.
Presumably the price of the hardware will be the same. The big question is how much additional financial abuse will be handed out for the TiVo monthly subscription. TiVo suggests that the cost will be an extra 50 cents over and above the current DirecTiVo fee (which happens to be the same as the non-TiVo fee).

I still think TiVo needs to do many times better than the $1.9 million a month that they currently get from DIRECTV.
When it comes out and I see a number of good reviews I would replace one of my D* units. Perhaps retire the H20 in the living room. Move my HR20-100 to the living room and have the Tivo in my bedroom. All provided the price is right and the D* fee is reasonable
Right now no I will not "trade in" for a new DirecTivo and I certainly won't pay extra. Only way I would is if it has all the features I get now from the HR20/21 plus a whole lot more.
I will get one but, it will not replace anything, it will be an addition.
Since we already have a poll and a discussion about this, we'll stick to that one: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=138467

Cheers,
