They are generally quite secretive about their data centers, which most companies are. Here is at least a peek inside one in Lenoir, NC. Almost a work of art on it's own.

Though looking at the street view of one of the guards, now there are even more questions...

CBS This Morning had a tour through the Lenoir, NC site. It's available on the iPad app and I'm sure online.

The racks of servers looked like open chassis' - no tops. I had read years ago that their first racks of servers were wooden frames with open motherboards / drives / power supplies laying on corkboard.
Thanks, that was great. My favorite comment was, "Clean up under my desk".

There seem to be all sorts of Easter eggs in that street view, from the life-sized Droid to the life-sized Streetview guy, to the entire staff gathered under a picnic shelter waving at the Streetview car as it goes by.

R2D2 I'm good with, he may be the greatest hacker in movies, but he's a white hat.

I bet Apple's data center doesn't have a foosball table...actually don't think there are actually many employees.
Lights out is good for a data center.
Apparently some of the pictures, especially of server racks were photoshopped. Some go as far to say faked.

It's like the servers on the left were flipped and put on the right.
