Install Questions Before Ordering Dish?

929 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Johnnie5000
I am getting ready to order me a new dish to install myself due to numerous scheduling conflicts with D*. I have installed the 3 lnb dishes myself numerous times myself with no issues. So I do not foresee having any doing this one.

But I want to make sure what I order from SolidSignal is all I will need. I plan on ordering this dish (Directv Five LNB Ka/Ku Slim Line Dish Antenna for MPEG-4 C HD Programming-AU9-S) and these 2 braces (DTVA3-Longbrace Extra Long Brace for Directv Slim Line Dish) is all I need. The dish mount will be on the fascia of my house and the two braces will be installed on the roof. This is exactly what one of my neighbors had installed by D*.

Right now I will not need a multi-switch being I will be needing only 3 runs.

Thanks for any and all help.

Fascia needs to be pretty strong. The 1 x 6 material often used will not cut it.
If you have fittings, ties & cable clips you are good to go.

I am pretty sure my fascia is a 2 x 6.

Will the AZ/EL bracket be included with the dish? I am reading the manual and it stated it would not be with the dish. The installation/alignment should be easier for me being I can look at my next door neighbors settings on his dish.

If you buy from SolidSignal the Azimuth/Elevation mount is included. Other sources will vary.
A tube or tub of asphault roofing cement on your list if you're going to attach poles through a shingle roof.
I have the caulking gun and tube ready to go.
I got my dish today and would like to setup my settings tonight if possible. Is there anyway to get the settings somewhere without messing up the install I have now?
When you attach to the fascia, make sure that you mount the post right where the truss meets the fascia. If you mount things between, the fascia often isn't particularly rigid. As you've probably already noticed the Slimline is at least ten pounds heavier than any dish you've installed before and a much better wind catcher.

Very good advice. We do lots of service calls due to dishes being mounted on sagging fascia boards, because idiot installers put the dish in between the rafters, instead of right over one where the fascia board would be supported. Over time, the fascia board warps and the dish/mount sags, and signal goes away.

Just sagging? You're lucky.
I always hate the service calls that when you get there, the customer says "my dish fell off"
