Install story in WNY

Hi,

Well living in the western New York area I had my install schedueled for yesterday, 10-19. After reading all the stories of shortages I fully expected to get reschedueled due to no Hr20 being available. Well my time was 8-12. The installer got here at 9:30 and I must admit I was still skeptical he was going to bring me the wrong DVR. Well after installing the new 5 lnb dish he brings in my HR20!!

I was excited to say the least. After the install , which took about 2 hours, he went to activate it and told me it will finish downloading new software , he had me sign him out and he left. He hooked it up with componant, when I asked him about HDMI he said he did not like it and said he trusted componant more. Well my problem now is pixalation on my locals . But it gets wierd here...it happens on every other local channel! It does make it unwatchable. Get this...it could be on channels 2, 7, 29 while the other locals are fine. Then I could go to my upper channels and come back to the locals and it would be reversed??? 2, 7, and 29will be fine and while the others, which were fine are now pixalated bad???

It is running the latest software. I was on the phone for about an hour with support and of course they are sending out a tech next Saturday. Do you think HDMI will help?? I have reset numerous times. BTW, service rep said she put in a waiver for me to get locals in HD since I live in a rural area but it takes 45 days to find out if Im approved for it.

Well sorry for the long post and if anybody has any suggestions I'm all ears!!!!
Thank you!
Frank

Your installer should have connected the HR20 using its HDMI output. That's what they're specifically instructed to do by DirecTV.

But I don't think that would affect your problem. When you say "locals", do you mean your standard definition locals or your MPEG4 HDTV local channels?

It's possible that the installer didn't properly align the dish. Let us know your signal readings on the various satellites and transponders.

Thanks for the response, I am talking SD locals here since no HD offered in my area yet. Signal strengths are up there...78-95's on all and was told my strengths are good. So you dont think HDMI would help then? Thanks for your time!!
