Here is my present system. HR20-700, H21-100, H20-100, H23-600, H21-20, Slim Line disk with all 4 lines brought in to 16 port multi switch. 3 coaxes to the HR-20-700 ( 2 tuners and off air antenna ), and 2 wires brought to the H20-100 ( sat and off air ) . These are the only 2 tuners that need off air. I ave an unused AMI ( or whatever it is ) that goes off air to USB.
I will beg , borrow, or trick D into a new H34 with the 5 tuners. I will put the AMI on it to get the off air back. All of the boxes are up to date software wise but I have noticed that the H20-100 does not have the new guide system like the others have upgraded to over the last month.
So with the H34 ( 5 tuners ) and the 4 other boxes that is 9 tuners. The slimline disk I have has a less than 6 month old regular LNB and a fresh aiming check by D due to a failure so is working fine. If I understand right then changing it to a SWM LNB would not work since they only support 8 tuners and I would have 9.
So I think I will buy the SWM16, and a power supply, and one 4 way and one 8 way splitter ( thinking to the future here ) and then there are the coax to ethernet thingies. I know I need at least one to make a wired ethernet connection somewhere ( not a problem I have it available at several locations that the D boxes and the SWM16 will be at ). I then throw away all the C band converters ( or whatever that thing is at the back of every receiver )
What else might I need ? I have heard the HR20- 700 can be a problem on SWIM but as I said I am going to get D to fix that. The other old receiver is the H20-100 that still has the old menu system. If that is a problem then I will need a new one there and a AMI ( OTA antennat require at that location also )
My OTA is all wired separate so do not need diplexers at all. I have Telephone lines at the HR20 and the H20 for CID.
D quoted me $447.00 to do the install. They will show up at the wrong time, not speak english, and have the wrong parts. I will probably spend more than that but I have read on the forums that they will not install SWM's on residences which leaves me short the use of all 5 tuners on the H34 ( which will be a problem ) plus any future expansion ( I have 4 TV locations right now that have no D box and am using one of the receivers to modulate onto an HD UHF channel that come in on the antenna from one of the receivers mounted in a closet with IR repeaters )
Any pointer appreciated
Jim
