This past weekend I moved into my new place and decided to instead of paying the movers fee to install Directv at my new place, I was just going to bring my satellite dish with me and set up the service myself. Well I run into a big issue while installing my service that I been working on for the past 4 hours and haven't had any luck on. I cannot manage to get signal strength. I have a Directv Slim Satellite and the cable outside feeds into a 4 way splitter, which has 1 cable to my living room, and 2 bedrooms. I set up my power inserter in the living room. I just don't know if my connections is where I am going wrong in this whole ordeal. No matter where I move my dish I can't catch a signal and I took a look at my neighbor's dish and they seem to be pointing in the same direction.

make sure the power inserter is connected to the power passing port of the splitter, as marked.

how long have you and the service? usually the movers service is free.

From the dish one RG6 SCC goes to the 4 way splitter. cable going to the PI (PWR to SWM) must connect to the red (insert) power passing port on the 4 way. then two cables from the other ports to the bedrooms.

I had Directv for almost 3 years. I moved last year and I was charged a movers fee, so I assumed I would be charged another fee for moving my service again this year. The power inserter is connected to the power passing ports and the other 2 ports are going to the rooms. I just went and double checked and all the ports are going to the right rooms.

Then it sounds is all about aiming your dish now.

I been playing around with the aiming of it. I have it pointed in the same direction as my neighbor's dish.

You may need to adjust the elevation.
It doesn't take much to be off.

that will only get you so far. You need to preset the dish according to your zip code and "scan" the sky with little left to right movements

If you're neighbor's dish isn't a DIRECTV Ka/Ku dish, it isn't pointed in the same direction as yours should be.

Use numbers you obtain from www.dishpointer.com for the 99W, 101W, 103W multi-dish configuration to "preset" the elevation and tilt as peds48 suggests. Know also that you cannot take short cuts on having the mast absolutely plumb. It will cost you many hours of effort if it isn't vertical.

You also need to make sure that the power inserter is getting uninterrupted power. Putting it on a switched circuit will plague you all of your days.

Actually that depends what dish they both have. The at9 was aimed completely different than the current dishes. The current ones are shooting at 101 on center now again liek the old dishes used to before the at9.

They weren't.
Doesn't matter if AT9, AU9, or SL3 or 5, they ALL are centered on the 101 SAT.
It was the old Phase III that was centered on the 110 SAT.

Oh that's right. I knew it was one of them. Forgot it was that one. I don know why but I was thinkin it was the side car.

My point was you never know for sure. General idea yes but it's not always exactly the same.

is never the same even if is next to it. There is some variation, while very minor, there is still one
