Installation Question

Hi, I am going to be ordering D* for my grandparents but need some questions answered about installation.

The previous owners of their house ran all of the coax in the attic so Comcast put the splitter in the attic. Will a DirecTV installer run the cable from dish through the attic and install a switch where the current splitter is? All the installs in my area have been done running the coax on the exterior of the house so I wasn't sure if they will work in an attic.

Also I was curious if there is any kind of protection plan that will protect them if a bad windstorm rips the dish of their house. Last winter part of their roof was blown off, so I am worried about their dish coming off.

Yes, they should be able to run it into the attic and put the switch there (if a switch is needed). That's where the switch was in my last house and in my current house, the lines run through the attic and to a multi-switch located in closet.

You can get the protection plan for $5.99 per month, which covers everything (receivers, multi-switches, dish, etc.).

Will the attic work be considered standard installation or will I have to pay them extra to go up into the attic?
Standard.
and for best results, if you have it all ready to go (attic door/access open, blanks already down if you need to (indoor access), cleared area for the receiver to be installed, etc.) the installers are usually much more willing to do a good job.

Not necessarily.

Can I get up and have enough room to walk around, and get to the wall where the cables come in without crawling through insulation? Likely free.

2' ceiling? 2' of blow-in insulation that I have to trudge through, clearing each step to make sure I don't break anything? Attic full of "priceless" stuff that has to be moved around to make room? Dead rats? Hornet's nest? Any of that, and it's not only not going to be free, it's going to be expensive.

Every situation has to be assessed individually, even two identical floorplans next door to each other.

And be nice to the guy, its August, put a box fan up in there a few hours before hand to cool the attic off. :D
