When the installer came last week and installed the H20 and HR 20 units (replacing my old DST3000), he did not swap out the old 3 lnb dish with the AT9. He said I would not like it, because I would loose some of the local HD channels ( Dallas). I have a roof mounted OTA anntena. He said I should just wait until December when OTA HD would be activated. But, now I have no HD OTA or DTV HD locals, I live in Dallas, where DTV does carry 4 or 5 HD locals.

Is this true or was he just giving me the run around since he didn't show up until 6 pm? Should I get him back out to replace the dish? Is was on the work order.

For now, I was thinking of re-installing my old Toshiba DST3000 since the HD OTA still works on it.

You cannot get HD locals with a 3LNB dish. They are on the new Ka satellites and require a 5LNB dish and either the H20 or HR20. Currently DirecTV carries the Dallas ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox HD locals. The HR20 does not yet do OTA, but the H20 will. This has nothing to do with the dish and the installer should have installed it in any case.

You could either reinstall the old receiver or connect the OTA antenna directly to your television set. If you have one without a tuner, I think the DST3000 will receive OTA without being activated (newer models will not).

If the RG-6 isn't too old it should be fine. When my AT-9 dish was installed, the installer used the two existing cables and added a dual cable. Unless it is a short run, you should have a solid copper center conductor. Ideally it should be cable rated to at least 2150 MHz, but it's probably hard to find cable which wouldn't work.

ANY - that's ANY - H20 or HR20 installations should be done with an AT9 (5 LNB) dish! One of the whole ideas of the H20 and HR20 receivers is the MPEG4 technology which is used for HD locals AND any new HD national channels that D* will be adding in the next year.

You should call D* and have the dish replaced. You will be able to use the Phase III dish with your new receivers, but you will not get the full benefit of what they were designed to do. Sounds like an "I want to get out of here quick" deal to me. And that line about losing some of the HD local channels is bull cookies.

Call D* and have them take care of the situation.

ALL Hd install for the HR20 "have to have" the 5lnb dish..

contact CIS 1st (not retention) & request an installer complaint.. & tell them about situation.. if proper route isn't set in motion then no one know how these company's employees work.. then the gears can be set in motion.. cis handles all installation & orders. RETENTION does have the power to "fix things" also.. but that is there area. (cust installation & support) +/& they have better deals on equpment than retention.. it is just up to their csrs to do the bidding (per say) retention has a certain level of credit that can be issue to "retain" the customer. They are the "power source" to maintain you. if u don't get any results from cis then request to speak to retention & trust me they will "jump into" the situation, also.

basic point.. contact d* & get that dish or else.. don't want u charged for one later.. that was a key part of the original installation..

Hey "little bird"!...

Does this senerio sound familiar (orig post)... Bruister kids do this All the time around here. = Talk cust out of it, lie,,ect ect and As YOU know from my last story i witness this in Person. > = "Mam i cant install your At-9 because your HDTV is not delivered yet.." & subsequently the dish was pushed in the garage and left and the HSP installed a USED(old) P3 oval AND LEFT.

The FAKE No line of sites (NLOS) are the Most common though. = Got 2 now as a fact and there IS a LOS like No t-morr Yet HSP rolls 2-3 trips and says NLOS for a AT-9 .

One Big JOKE!

My installer tried to talk me out of the AT-9 also. He went on and on about how big it was and how it wouldn't do anything for me, blah blah. None of them like the dish, maybe when the slimline is widely available they will quit fighting against progress.

The installers really don't like the AT9, that's a fact.

I had a good installer. He said it is normal procedure for him to assume it will be a pole mount with concrete, and he allows 3-4 hours for each install.

That's how mine was, buried RG6 and all.

I doubt that installers around San Antonio count on pole mounts, at least not in the North sections of the city. We're in what is called "Texas Hill Country" and my house sits on solid limestone. We can hardly put flowers in our flower beds much less dig a hole deep enough for a substantial pole mount. Neighbor just had 3 medium sized trees planted and it took the landscape company a week with a commercial jack hammer and a couple hundred dollars per hole to plant them. The holes cost way more than the trees. :)
