I was changing channels on the MLB package and instantly lost signal. So, I did a restart, and same thing. I checked other receivers, and I was able to get some channels, and not others. Some said signal strength, some said channel was not available. I checked one receiver, and I was getting 98 and 96 signal strength, but still having issues. Phone rep first thought it was the dish alignment, but then wondered about connections. Just had the new dish put in this spring. I can't believe that would be the issue. To suddenly go out? Perfectly sunny day here in Illinois. On my main HD dish, I am getting "failed" on 101, 110, 119. But like I said, I was getting 98 strength on my old Tivo.

You trying to watch Strike Zone channel or just a regular game? Because Strike Zone is not available today.
I was on 720, the mix channel. Everything was fine, but when I hit select to pick the game I wanted, that's when everything got messed up. Phone tech thought it might have been connection or multiswitch, but it just happened instantly.

Anybody? After restarting again, I am stuck on step 1 of 2, checking satellite settings.
Definitely something preventing the signal to the unit....Dish (LNB), alignment, or multiswitch. I'd start to make sure the Dish has not been moved, and all connections are sound.

Thanks. On one of my receivers, I am getting 98 and 96 signals, and I can receive a few channels.

Not necessarily just tighten them, but make sure there's no evidence of corrosion or any way moisture could have gotten in. And the reason you get 98 on one receiver, but nothing on another has nothing to do with the dish itself. Problems like this usually fall in the connections or the line for that individual receiver.

Thanks ... everything looks tight outside. Like I said, this dish and multiswitch were new this spring.

You can't tell anything just by looking at them, you have to take them apart.

I had an outdoor splitter 6 months old that looked brand new on the outside, but when I finally took it apart while chasing down a connection issue I found the copper core had rotted and basically dissolved inside. Looks can be deceiving...

Just because your multi-switch is new, doesn't mean it still works. Try bypassing it with double-female "barrel" adapters, and connect the antenna lines from each receiver one after the other straight to the dish. Do a menu restart from System Setup > Reset when re-connected straight to the dish.

Before I reconnect each one, do I have to turn anything off?
Also, can any action I did with my remote do something to the multiswitch. Like I said, I was on 720, the MLB Mix channel. Everything was fine, I saw 4 different games. When I hit select to pick one of the games, that's when everything started.

It's not really a good idea to hot-switch cable connectors unless you're really careful, because it's easy to short out the 13/18V DC switching voltage when the center pin accidentally touches the outside of the adjacent female connector, although I have yet to damage a receiver doing it. You can turn off your receiver completely by pulling the plug when the front panel lights briefly go out during the menu reset.

All you're doing when you push the button on the remote is requesting through the multi-switch a different set of signals from the LNB. If the multi-switch is malfunctioning, it won't provide the requested set of signals.

Guess I'll have to wait for the service call Monday. I guess the multiswitch can go bad at any time, but it sure seems odd it happened when I was hitting select to pick an Extra Innings channel. I've always thought the Extra Innings mix channel was a bit touchy. I know, you guys don't agree.

I'll just have to wait until Monday ... a long time with no DirecTV!

I guess I don't get how I can get a 98 signal on one, and still not get the channels?
You got 98 and 96 on one specific transponder, out of (32 for the 101 sat, for example).
So you're able to get a couple of channels. But There are more transponders that are probably getting 0's, right??

I've even seen a DrecTV installer toast someone else's multiswitch doing this....as you pointed out...its not recommended. Cable and connections should always be done with units powered down.
